This is the first birthday I've had a bit of a shitty on because I'm getting older. Last time I checked, I was 19. I'm 24 today. Officially mid-twienties. Bah.

And I've had a rubbish morning at work.

Kind ladies of Mumsnet, please cheer me up Sad

trust me, when you get to 42, 24 does not seem old!

Happy birthday :)

NormanTheForeman · 01/11/2011 09:06

Could be worse - I'll be 50 in just over 3 weeks' time...........

JaneFonda · 01/11/2011 09:07

HAPPY BIRTHDAY! :o :o

Don't worry, young sprightly one, you are but a baby in comparison to most on MN! :)

Hope your day improves, are you doing anything fun tonight?

itspeanutbutterjellytime · 01/11/2011 09:09

Thank you {smile] jane that really did make me smile too!

I'm not doing anything tonight, but we are supposed to be going out for a meal on Saturday. DH is taking the afternoon off this afternoon and taking me out to lunch, and there is a nice pile of gifts in my living room when I left this morning. So I should be chuffed...

But I feel like being a grouch and staying in on Saturday

Seriously - you are 24!! That's enough reason to cheer up - you have a whole life time ahead of you. Twenties are the best- enjoy Smile

Moodykat · 01/11/2011 09:11

I'm 28 now and still feel 18! It's all in the mind set! Cheer up chum! You've still got 6 years before your 30, I've only got 2!

WitchesBroomForMyChin · 01/11/2011 09:12

Happy birthday Grin know how you feel, I was 25 in June and you suddenly realise you aren't a teenager and can't use your youth as an excuse for doing things wrong anymore.

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 01/11/2011 09:21

24...how ancient!!!!!!!

Shock

(is 39)

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 01/11/2011 09:22

Happy Birthday!

legspinner · 01/11/2011 09:23

Happy birthday!
FWIW I have a good 2 decades on you and well remember being crushed when I turned 25 Blush Oh those days... (old gimmer emoticon) Enjoy!

bruffin · 01/11/2011 09:25

I am now over double your age. I found 30 very depressing, but it got better after that.

Happy Birthday Grin

manicbmc · 01/11/2011 09:25

Have a lovely birthday. Grin

I'm sorry, but I have never understood how people can freak out because of their age. Hmm

Pinot · 01/11/2011 09:30

I know how you feel (or I remember how you feel) but really - turn the feeling round into appreciating how much nicer it is to be 24 than a silly 18 year old. Think about how you've changed for the better and keep in mind you still have years and years of youth ahead of you.

Happy Birthday! :) Wine

MadamTwoSwords · 01/11/2011 09:43

Age has never bothered me but for some reason turning 30 next week is really bothering me. Maybe because I only feel 23. I am trying to look at turning 30 as an excuse to "refresh" myself, lose weight, do more interesting things but I also just want to stay in bed on the day and cry!

Annanymous · 01/11/2011 10:02

YABU to used the word depressed like this. I hope you don't ever really suffer from depression.

valiumredhead · 01/11/2011 10:05

Depressed is a valid way to describe one's feelings - the OP isn't saying " I feel clinically depressed " is she? How should she say it?

24?? Wait til you get to.... erm over 40 Grin

valiumredhead · 01/11/2011 10:06

Oh and HAPPY BIRTHDAY! :)

MyMelody · 01/11/2011 10:11

you are depressed because you are 24??????? Confused

marykat2004 · 01/11/2011 10:15

I am always sad on my birthday. It started when I was 41. Be glad you have many years of fabulous 20s and 30s before 40s come along...Everyone has bad days, though, even when it's your birthday, especially if you are at work on your birthday. Enjoy your weekend celebration.

Calabria · 01/11/2011 10:18

Happy Birthday!

tmmy · 01/11/2011 10:19

Just turned 30 a few days ago. Spent it in bed crying and feeling sad. Try and cheer up. I feel better now.

valiumredhead · 01/11/2011 10:20

You spent your birthday in bed crying and feeling sad? Seriously?

I am 42 on Saturday and would love to be 24 again so enjoy you are in your prime!!

Happy Birthday!! Treat yourself to a nice lunch and a big slice of cake and enjoy - in 20 years time you'll look back and wish you were 24 again!!

valiumredhead · 01/11/2011 10:27

I had a slight wibble when I turned 40 last year - it was more of a 'Wooooooa how the hell did that happen?' but seeing as there was sod all I coud do about it I decided to just get on with it and I had the best birthday yet - was utterly fab!
