The word forum has become naturalised as an English word surely? Can't people just say forums and stop showing off that they know using the Latin.

And besides, it makes me think of fauna and flora for some reason.

Mardymwahhaha · 10/10/2011 18:17

And come to think of it, dice is an acceptable singular in my book.

Mardymwahhaha · 10/10/2011 18:17

I wonder how long a thread I can do on my own...

OP posts:
Mardymwahhaha · 10/10/2011 18:18

La la la la la

OP posts:
Mardymwahhaha · 10/10/2011 18:18

Not sure how I feel about "data"...

OP posts:
Mardymwahhaha · 10/10/2011 18:18

The data are... Hmmm.

It does sound a leeetle bit wanky, yes. "Forums" is generally accepted as a plural now. I can see how some people like to be accurate though, if they have a background in linguistics or something.

CardyMow · 10/10/2011 18:18

I will tentatively agree with the fora / forums part - but dice for die?? NOOOOOOO even my 9yo would be incredibly put out!!

MissPenteuth · 10/10/2011 18:19

Oh, sorry, am I interrupting? Grin

ImperialBlether · 10/10/2011 18:19

It always smacks of pedantry and a hope that people will notice they know their Latin.

Language changes and adapts - it's fluid.

Mardymwahhaha · 10/10/2011 18:19

Agendas? Agendae?

Proudnreallyveryscary · 10/10/2011 18:19

YABU because you posted here fora stupid reason.

Mardymwahhaha · 10/10/2011 18:20

Exactly Imperial. I have a Latin O-Level too y'know!

OP posts:
Mardymwahhaha · 10/10/2011 18:20

Ha ha. I like a good pun though Proud.

OP posts:
Mardymwahhaha · 10/10/2011 18:22

Hunty - nah, we've moved on. Surely everyone rolls the dice at ludo.

OP posts:
Mardymwahhaha · 10/10/2011 18:23

Mind you, my example of "fauna and flora" is a bit rich. Not sure what fauna is the plural of. And maybe it should be flors?

OP posts:
Mardymwahhaha · 10/10/2011 18:23

Feel free to join in people.

OP posts:
squeakytoy · 10/10/2011 18:24

It sounds very wanky and condescending... and I would have to laugh at anyone who used it...

:)

Catslikehats · 10/10/2011 18:24

Latin on not t is possibly the wankiest word ever and makes you look like a big fat knob. YANBU Grin

Mardymwahhaha · 10/10/2011 18:24

Do the people who use fora, also go to arenae?

OP posts:
Mardymwahhaha · 10/10/2011 18:25

Yes squeakytoy, maybe I should point and stare next time I see it used on MN.

OP posts:
Catslikehats · 10/10/2011 18:26

People who use fora have no friends and so don't go anywhere

Mardymwahhaha · 10/10/2011 18:26

on a roll now.

Lots of food for thought here

OP posts:
Mardymwahhaha · 10/10/2011 18:28

Maybe I am being hypocritical as I would definitely use "alumni".

OP posts:
Mardymwahhaha · 10/10/2011 18:29

Any fora users want to come on and have a catfight reasoned debate?
