To Hate Nautical Bathrooms?!!!

TiggyD · 05/10/2011 19:35

Have these people got no imagination? "Well, a bathroom has water in it...like the sea...". Cold blue paint, bits of fishing net, depressed looking dried starfish, crappy model of a lighthouse, pictures of boats like the ones that you see in their thousands in car boot sales and pub walls. Go with the herd, eh?
If you have a seaside themed bathroom you have no taste. I bet Darth Vader has a nautical bathroom. He bobs around in his bath full of Matey bubbles using his loofa like a lightsabre imagining that he's floating somewhere off Weymouth.
Does your collection of shells remind you of your holidays? Shells are secreted by tasty, slimy, bogey looking animals and when they die you pick up what's left and stick them on you windowsills. Classy. If I were to do that with sheep skulls I'd get called weird.
Please redecorate your boring bathrooms immediately.

YANBU, I hate clutter in bathrooms. If you can't think of something original to put in your bahroom, leave it plain and uncluttered.
Is this going to be a new twigs with fairy lights thread? Grin

I live by the sea and even I don't have a nautical bathroom. One wall is painted alternate white and sagey green stripes (wood panels if you see what I mean) which someone once likened to a beach hut... Hmm

mistressploppy · 05/10/2011 19:43

YANBU. Contrived shite. I hate themed rooms generally.

pinkthechaffinch · 05/10/2011 19:43

I like a Scandinavian themed bathroom, with lots of varnished pine. Cosy.

Yanbu. I don't get the need for clutter in a bathroom (candles, figures, shells, fancy bits of trees).

DooinMeCleanin · 05/10/2011 19:45

My mum used to have one, then my sister brought home a Lurcher puppy and he ate most of the starfish Grin, he also ate the twigs and crap. So he thinks YANBU.

My bathroom was black and white until all the tiles fell off the wall and rudely attacked me whilst I was singing along to Pink in the shower. That'll learn me for singing in the shower Grin, Now it just looks grotty and half finished.

pocketfullofposies · 05/10/2011 19:45

I have always thought this!!! But never ranted out loud, just in case.

Mind you I am also not overly keen on hotel like bathrooms, those that resemble a spa, with beige tiles.

Deflatedballoonbelly · 05/10/2011 19:58

I have a mildly nautical bathroom!

its a rented house with white tiles with BLUE starfish on them. So I have one of those glass blue balls in the net thingys, some blue and white polka storage boxes and a little white ravaged looking boat things. My daughter half inched all the shells! Grin

MogTheForgetfulCat · 05/10/2011 19:59

YA soooooo NBU - I loathe nautical bathrooms! Our bathroom is painted a horrible blue, has been since we moved in - is not otherwise conspicuously nautical, but even having it blue is too much for me and I can't wait to change it.

GeorgeEliot · 05/10/2011 20:00

Do you mean like mine, OP? Alternative view Granted its more under the sea than nautical, but that would be splitting hairs...

Deflatedballoonbelly · 05/10/2011 20:02

Mofo, dont you have an Elvis loo seat?

Vivipru, loving the avocado!

ZillionChocolate · 05/10/2011 20:03

I hate dirty bathrooms, people can decorate them however they like.

(Would like to see photos of the Elvis bathroom)

ViviPru · 05/10/2011 20:03

Oh, Riiight.

that makes it seem so much better... Grin

I have green frogs on the tiles in my downstairs loo Blush

Awomancalledhorse · 05/10/2011 20:07

I have this lightpull. My MIL hates it, I am bored of it...but more importantly my MIL HATES it. It stays. Grin

TiggyD · 05/10/2011 20:12

I have two vintage photographs of Whitby on my bathroom wall. I thought they were lovely, but now I'm wondering if they are naff. I live beside the sea if that's any excuse - though not at Whitby.

ViviPru · 05/10/2011 20:19

Just an excuse for a fat juicy stealth boast, OP, those were of course my before pictures

here here and here are the after....

Shame we had to move 12 months later
