To Hate Nautical Bathrooms?!!!

TiggyD · 05/10/2011 19:35

Have these people got no imagination? "Well, a bathroom has water in it...like the sea...". Cold blue paint, bits of fishing net, depressed looking dried starfish, crappy model of a lighthouse, pictures of boats like the ones that you see in their thousands in car boot sales and pub walls. Go with the herd, eh?
If you have a seaside themed bathroom you have no taste. I bet Darth Vader has a nautical bathroom. He bobs around in his bath full of Matey bubbles using his loofa like a lightsabre imagining that he's floating somewhere off Weymouth.
Does your collection of shells remind you of your holidays? Shells are secreted by tasty, slimy, bogey looking animals and when they die you pick up what's left and stick them on you windowsills. Classy. If I were to do that with sheep skulls I'd get called weird.
Please redecorate your boring bathrooms immediately.

Roxy, if you like them then screw what anyone else thinks! They sound nice to me.

Meteorite · 05/10/2011 20:29

Must be alternatives to either beige minimalism or nautical though? (I have inherited "nautical" from previous occupants!)

ElderberrySyrup · 05/10/2011 20:29

YANBU about the crappy lighthouse models and shit.

My bathroom is painted a lovely blue and has a beautiful painting of a beach, though.

There's a sheep skull on my kitchen windowsill and you are right OP, I do get called weird. My mum has a lot of old bones on her windowsills but then she is weird.

RoxyRobin · 05/10/2011 20:37

Thanks, Ninky - I'll go and fish (pun intended) them out of the bin!

EightiesChick · 05/10/2011 20:45

Roxy who cares what anyone else thinks? You're going to see the most of it by far!

Biscuit to all these fairy-lights-and-twigs threads

PS I have a pic of a beach in one and beige spa style minimalism elsewhere. I like them.

EightiesChick · 05/10/2011 20:46

Though I like the idea of Darth Vader's nautical bathroom. In fact if anything it's made the nautical bathroom concept more appealing.

PureBloodMuggle · 05/10/2011 20:57

i don't know anyone with a nautical bathroom. Do i just know wierdos or something

mine has dinosaurs in it, admittedly not by choice

redexpat · 05/10/2011 22:00

I always think they're a bit changing rooms. Great in the 90s but well out of date now!

My dream bathroom is art nouveau, like in the film Amelie, or the flake advert.

spiderpig8 · 05/10/2011 22:11

You can keep your modern 'tasteful' clutterfree bathrooms.I've seen more appealing mortuaries

VivaLeBeaver · 05/10/2011 22:15

My mum bought tiles with cartoon mice on them for her bathroom. Dancing around under toadstools. I think she wins the crap bathroom comp.

dementedma · 05/10/2011 22:17

agree with spiderpig.
and anyway OP, WTF is it to do with you how people decorate their bathrooms? it's naff because you dont like it?Hmm. who died and made you the goddess of bathrooms?
Post pics of yours so we can all slag off your taste.

WillieWaggledagger · 05/10/2011 22:20

dp's parents' entire house is nautical themed. though they do own (but not live on) a boat...

for the love of your own sanity don't ever get a white tiled bathroom floor. we're in a rented house with a beautifully tiled bathroom, but the white tiled floor is almost impossible to keep nice for more than 1/2 an hour

VivaLeBeaver · 05/10/2011 22:48

Bizarre, they're just talking about this on some comedy program on bbc1

VivaLeBeaver · 05/10/2011 22:48

Not this thread, I mean nautical bathrooms being naff.

mutha2two · 05/10/2011 22:53

Yanbu - shells, twee porteholey mirrors that look like they came off a ship, wainscot panelling, yacht ornaments , stripy towels bin the lot I say definitely to be consigned to the nightmare era of changing rooms

Kladdkaka · 05/10/2011 23:04

I've put pictures of mine on my profile as I'm not clever enough to link them in the thread. The pictures aren't particularly good as it's looks slightly brown, but it isn't it's sage green. I'm a bit worried that green might cross the border into nautical. Blush

Grumpla · 05/10/2011 23:07

I want a Darth Vader themed bathroom now...

TalcAndTurnips · 05/10/2011 23:09

I have a loo so futuristic, you might as well be an astronaut rollimg down his spacesuit and settling down for a dump with a copy of What Spaceship?

No flush handles or chains, no siree; just a shiny knob you press to unleash a mighty vortex to flush away any cosmic poop.

Of course, do anything normal such as break the seat and it'll cost 200 of your Earth pounds to replace it. Greedy Italian designer feckers Angry

Grumpla · 05/10/2011 23:12

Ooooooooooooh!

That DOES sound fancy and bloody irritating .

NormanTheForeman · 05/10/2011 23:12

I love nautical bathrooms, but then I would have my whole house in a nautical/seaside style if possible.

However, I don't have loads of shells/pebbles/shit which collects dust. Just a blue and white colour scheme, tiles with the occasional nautical thing on, and a seaside themed picture on the wall (and ds's towels which have octopuses/whales etc on).

summerfruitsalad · 05/10/2011 23:13

talc, I need to see a picture of said space-toilet.

Your post is going to have me giggling all night Grin

PomBearAtTheGatesOfDawn · 05/10/2011 23:13

So you're watching Rhod Gilbert too OP :)

summerfruitsalad · 05/10/2011 23:16

I live in a rented house and the tiles that go round the midway point of the wall are blue with starfish and shells on. It's just as well I haven't put a frame with a load of sand up on the wall. My friend's mum has a very nautical themed bathroom, it's quite scary actually. full of creepy shit like figurines of people in victorian swimsuits. Blergh
