Not according to the 3 zillion spiders in residence at my house, including the brown stripey one with the 3-inch diamater body and 6 foot long legs that I caught building a web 3 feet across (now I am serious about that one - 3 feet wide it was) in my front garden.

MinnieBar · 27/09/2011 14:04

Oooh you're so in Trillian's bad books now... Wink

Haven't seen any inside for a couple of weeks, but DH informed me he had to get rid of one that had made quite a large web between my car and his (on my driver's side, of course). Plus there is one of those speckledy ones halfway down our kitchen window.

Best remain on your guard, I say...

mummysleepy · 27/09/2011 14:04

Poor spiders. Yanbu for asking Grin

But no it isn't still catching at least one big one a night here

AllGoodNamesGone · 27/09/2011 14:05

It's on it's way out, roll on October I say!

Found a nasty one in my hallway last night though, shudder!

CristinadellaPizza · 27/09/2011 14:07

Not judging by the several hundred that have set up camp in my garden, no. Although my spider-proofing seems to be working reasonably well

Hassled · 27/09/2011 14:08

It was world of spider webs this morning - a bit foggy, and the dew just highlighted them nicely.

ChooChooWowWow · 27/09/2011 14:11

If it is nobody told the massive beast that was stomping around my living room two nights ago.

AurraSing · 27/09/2011 14:17

Ds found one in the bathroom sink that was so big he could see it blinking.

ripstheirthroatoutliveupstairs · 27/09/2011 14:19

I hope not otherwise the five little nestlings of spidereggs that are on the outside of my kitchen window are dead little spiderlings.
I've deliberately not cleaned them away because I am a lazy cow they are important to the fragile ecosystem.

Zippylovesgeorge · 27/09/2011 14:20

Would say its barely started. Keep seeing those huge harvest ones - they laugh at me this year as they know I can't catch them. Can't move fast enough on crutches :(

EricNorthmansMistress · 27/09/2011 14:31

Well I don't really count little stripey garden spiders. Found two of them performing a ballet off my living room ceiling this morning but they are easily dealt with. I was thinking more about the giant brown beasties that scuttle out of dark corners to shag at this time of year.

After I posted this I spotted on in a web in the corner of the room. Duly fetched a colleague to rid the office of the bastard who then laughed at me quite a lot as the thing was dead. In actual fact she had deprived another beastie of his dinner as this one was caught in the web of a smaller and deadlier but also less scary one.

Then my friend showed me her leg - three yes THREE spider bites on her thigh from camping this weekend.

Did you know that conkers are supposed to put spiders off coming into your house? Someone told me that a couple of weeks ago. No idea if true, but worth trying...

spiderslegs · 27/09/2011 14:48

Sadly Justine I believe this theory was disproved by a group of school children last year. I think they were honored by the Royal Society of Chemistry for their good work.

Sorry.

spiderslegs · 27/09/2011 14:49

Mind you, I would say that wouldn't I......

giyadas · 27/09/2011 14:49

that didn't work for me, Sad they just built their webs around them.
I've got some spider traps around the place but the little sods are sneaky.
And one was too big to fit

fedupandtired · 27/09/2011 14:50

If it is nobody told the tarantula sized spider which took up residence in my daughter's bedroom last night.

SjuperWolef · 27/09/2011 14:53

funny me and besty were talking earlier about the spiders that are invading our houses the past couple of weeks. she had one in her bath last week the size of a house and i have one in mine just now - percy his name is - that i really ought to drown but he's been there since yesterday and i quite like him. hopefully they'll be off soon tho they arent half annoying!

mousymouse · 27/09/2011 14:55

it has just started....

huaaahahaaha

CristinadellaPizza · 27/09/2011 14:55

I have found conkers to be reasonably successful but I prick them first. Don't they give off some kind of vapour?

ItsTimeToBurnThisDiscoDown · 27/09/2011 14:57

Don't know about the spiders (have 3 cats which catch them!) but the bloody daddy long legs are back :(

RoyalWelsh · 27/09/2011 15:02

DP casually told me last week that because of Global Warming and the shit weather we have had recently, we are due for an infestation.

I did not know there was a spider season though, and reading your responses makes me think that he was having me on. Again. Cos the fucker likes to see me squirm.

eurochick · 27/09/2011 15:11

EMM SPIDERINMYSLEEPINGBAG SPIDERINMYSLEEPINGBAG SPIDERINMYSLEEPINGBAG. ARGH!

I have found some absolutel monsters in my house over the past few days.

addictediam · 27/09/2011 15:14

No he's right because of the cold winter, and hot spring there are more around mating which means more babies :( (i didn't understand really but thats what i was told) can't wait for October onwards when the little creatures will freeze to death hybernate

Iggly · 27/09/2011 15:19

Nope sorry. Found a monster in my bath that was so big it should be contributing to household costs.
