DSis and DBIL to be are having a great debate over what they want for their first dance when they get married soon.........DSis wants something soppy and DBIL to be wants something 'funky' (although I have no idea what that may be).

So this got me thinking.......AIBU to ask what did you and your DH or DW dance to at your wedding? DH and I had 'Sunday morning by Maroon 5.

Onemorning, exactly the same as us! Were going to have some downbeat Billy Bragg but ended up deciding on The Darkness just because it's fun and we wanted everyone to join in. I ended up dancing most of it with one of the 3yo nieces who dived in a bit prematurely (ie, right at the beginning!) but I wouldn't have changed that either!

Wilts · 25/09/2011 18:38

Dancing queen by Abba Hmm

We didn't want a first dance, the DJ took umbrage at that for some reason and announced our first dance as blooming Abba Grin

Voidka · 25/09/2011 18:43

For Lovers by Wolfman and Pete Doherty.

Groovee · 25/09/2011 18:46

I love you by Celine Dion

bagelmonkey · 25/09/2011 18:49

Didn't have one. I hate dancing and DH can't dance. I said I'd only do a first dance if it was the conga.

AngryGnome · 25/09/2011 20:08

We had Feeling Godd by Nina Simone for our first dance, it's one of my favourite songs ever and the lyrics semed perfect. Mind, we only got about 2 bars in before my mum leapt on to the dance floor, so not exactly a traditional first dance!

we then had the muse version of the same song for our last dance...sigh, wish I could have the day all over again!

AngryGnome · 25/09/2011 20:09

Feeling Godd?! FFS.
Feeling Good, obv. Feeling Godd just seems a little....odd. And probably offensive to vicars.

rhondajean · 25/09/2011 20:24

Put Your Arms Around Me by Texas.

For no reason other than it was the only one we could think of!!

mummynoseynora · 25/09/2011 20:34

Eva Cassidy - songbird

I wanted something with lovely lyrics, and DH wanted an instrumental... very difficult to choose - one day we heard it on the radio and just knew Grin

2gorgeousboys · 25/09/2011 20:43

U2 - One. It was special to us as it was on the radio at the time DH who was then just a colleague told me he liked me. We still smile at each other now when we hear the song.

Our first dance was family dance rather than just the 2 of us as we also danced with DSS (who was 6) and DS1 (who was 2).

Dance Me To The End Of Love, by Leonard Cohen. I LOVE the song, still love it now, and indeed have it as the ringtone on my phone for my husband, but found the whole 'first dance' thing incredibly embarrassing . . .
One of my friends (and her husband!) had Together In Electric Dreams, which was brilliant.

poorbuthappy · 25/09/2011 20:56

Happy together by the turtles. Chosen from the karaoke sequence on the shrek DVD!!

cjbartlett · 25/09/2011 21:02

My best friend had Ronan Keating you say it best when you say nothing at all
Ahhhhh

We had meatloaf I would do anything for love

madamehooch · 25/09/2011 21:49

The DJ at our wedding had none of the songs we asked for. In the end, we told him to play whatever he wanted. He played 'Unchained Melody' by the Righteous Brother. Both DH and I groaned when we heard it!

When DSIL got married, the second song the DJ played was 'Please Release Me, Let Me Go, Cause I Don't Love you Any More......'

wandawings · 25/09/2011 21:56

The slow version of Everytime We Touch by Cascada.

YouWinOrYouDie · 25/09/2011 22:11

It was something I really hated because I was the anti-Bridezilla.

How about Thriller?

TheFeministsWife · 25/09/2011 22:25

We had No Ordinary Love by Sade.

acatcalledfelix · 25/09/2011 22:39

Gawd we were in discussions for AGES over this. In the end we had "God Only Knows" by the Beach Boys, which is a beautiful song, and we'd seen Brian Wilson do an amazing set the year before so it was meaningful to us, which is what DH really wanted.

I wanted "Somebody" by Depeche Mode which I think is one of the most amazing love songs ever, but DH doesn't really know it so it was vetoed.

Sewmuchtodo · 26/09/2011 08:05

Thanks for all the replies. I am about to hit the iPod as so many of you have reminded me of songs I love but never seem to listen to.....God only knows, Kiss me and Iris.

We considered Iris for our first dance too but DH worked with an Iris (and she was a royal cow) so it put us off!

DH and I didn't have 'a song' and neither of us are natural dancers but im glad we had a first dance as it has now given us 'a song' and I like having that 'secret smile when it comes on the radio' :-)

We had 'Strange & Beautiful' by Aqualung :)

aldiwhore · 26/09/2011 09:14

We had forever by Ben Harper, it was a bad choice, impossible to dance to and we felt like awkward teenagers waddling around in a tight circle.

We made up for it later with a lot of our favourite music... the first dance wasn't a major part of the day for us really.
