DSis and DBIL to be are having a great debate over what they want for their first dance when they get married soon.........DSis wants something soppy and DBIL to be wants something 'funky' (although I have no idea what that may be).

So this got me thinking.......AIBU to ask what did you and your DH or DW dance to at your wedding? DH and I had 'Sunday morning by Maroon 5.

We had and acoustic version of Everlong by Foo Fighters.

My DH had been married before and his first wife stood him up for their first dance and he was left looking like a right lemon on his own on the dancefloor Sad Needless to say, that wasn't a good start and their marriage didn't last very long Grin

So, when we tied the knot he was really worried that it would happen again. I was on the loo when I heard the music start and the DJ calling my name! I was in a right panic as I knew he would be mortified because I wasn't there. Getting off the loo quickly with a mahoosive wedding dress was not an easy task!!!!!

'Still crazy after all these years' paul simon. 1st verse lyrically not particularly great for a marridge dance but I've always loved the last verse. We'd been together a while (6 years) before we married and the title just seemed so right for us

theoldtrout01876 · 25/09/2011 14:17

I cant remember what song my exh and I chose,BUT he changed it at the last second, talking after they had called us up for the dance here,To something Id never heard of before,so Ive got no clue what it was Hmm

With DH we had Fishermans Blues by the Waterboys :o We love that song and it means a lot to us,I still get fuzzy when I hear it. My Dh is the best :o

RantyMcRantpants · 25/09/2011 15:06

Wow! I'm impressed you remembered other people's first dance songs Boasting and I am sure there is someone out thee for you some where.

The other song for us that we had on the day was Perfect Day. It really was a perfect day for us. The guy who did the video for us at the end did a lovely montage of the day to that song.

peeriebear · 25/09/2011 15:09

we had Kiss Me, by Sixpence None The Richer. I wanted Afternoon Delight by the Starlight Vocal Band but the DJ couldn't find it :) I love Kiss Me though, just a lovely song.

eurochick · 25/09/2011 15:14

We had Billy Idol's White Wedding. We weren't planning to dance to it as a sort of display first dance where everyone watches, but ended up dancing to it hoping people would join us - they didn't (the bastards). It is not the easiest thing to dance to but made quite a lively start to the evening. Our last dance was Moon River (which I absolutely love). On reflection, we should have started with that, despite it being a cheesy choice!

cloudydays · 25/09/2011 15:19

"Friday I'm in Love" by the Cure. We got married on a Friday. :)

33goingon64 · 25/09/2011 15:25

We didn't intentionally have a first dance. The band sang 'how sweet it is to be loved by you' by Etta James and DH and I just started dancing in an effort to get people up on the floor - they were all outside watching the sunset. People said 'oh we missed your first dance' but we didn't mean it to be one!

The last dance was also an accident - our taxi didn't turn up so the band asked us what to play while we waited for it to arrive. They suggested Fields of Gold but we both said no too cheesy. DH said 'something fast and bonkers' and they played Summer of 69 by Bryan Adams. It was great as it was entirely unplanned and DH got out all his groovy moves and we twirled round and round with everyone in a circle around us. If I think about my favourite moments of the day, that is one of them.

AlmaMartyr · 25/09/2011 15:38

We didn't have one. It was a barn dance and I hated the thought of a first dance so the best man yanked us outside for a drink so we couldn't be pressured into it. I would probably have chosen something from the Divine Comedy though.

Deesus · 25/09/2011 15:42

We had the Ben E King version of Stand By Me sung by an awesome live soul band. Both me and DH are 'interesting' and 'enthusiastic' dancers Wink and don't mind looking like divs so we had a proper good boogie round the dancefloor to it got a wee bit carried away if I'm honest. Was one of my favourite wedding day moments... Grin

somethingkindaoooh · 25/09/2011 15:55

We had True Love Ways by Buddy Holly. Most of our friends had never heard of it before but it means a lot to us and I am so pleased that we didn't go for something modern and cheesy, I love the fact that it's a bit more of unusual choice!

fatlazymummy · 25/09/2011 17:35

I can't remember. It was in 1987, before these wedding rituals became such a big deal. I can't stand being the centre of attention and would have hated everyone watching me.

snigger · 25/09/2011 17:43

I refused to have dancing at my wedding, couldn't be doing with all the attention. We had a very civilised dinner, then our two sets of best friends bundled us into the back of their Land Rover with some champagne, and we drove down to the harbour for a bit of a laugh and a drink and a reminisce, then onward to the train station and honeymoon.

Meanwhile, back at the ranch, the various families continued to celebrate in their own chosen style.

I would have hated the pressure of having to pick A Song - I get right judgy when people try to be fey and hilarious, or worse, utterly maudlin.

The worst ever first dance I witnessed was a girl with an overly close relationship with her brother - he insisted on singing their first dance song, wouldn't let them pick it, and sang We Are Family by Sister Sledge.

Hassled · 25/09/2011 17:48

I didn't at either of my weddings. Neither ExH or DH are what you might call blessed with natural rhythm (unless it's a Madness track for DH, when it just becomes too terrifying for the elderly aunts) and I'm too self-conscious.

Onemorning · 25/09/2011 17:52

We were going to have something soppy, but in the end went with 'I believe in a thing called love' by the Darkness.

LiliPinkiePie · 25/09/2011 18:06

Everlong by the Foo Fighters.
Most romantic song ever IMO

mumblechum1 · 25/09/2011 18:12

Perfect Day by Lou Reed with DH1.

Didn't have a proper wedding with DH2, just eloped & nipped off to Paris after the ceremony.

readsalotgirl · 25/09/2011 18:17

We had "Wonderful tonight" by Eric Clapton. DH was very nervous about dancing and I can count on one hand the number of times he has danced with me since but we're still here 20 years on

riksti · 25/09/2011 18:24

'I've had the time of my life' from Dirty Dancing. We met in a salsa class so it seemed appropriate to salsa at our wedding.

PotteringAlong · 25/09/2011 18:26

We had Elton John 'your song'

cwtch4967 · 25/09/2011 18:30

We had "It started with a Kiss" by Hot Chocolate - it meant something to us - we met on a virtual dating site, DH read my profile and sent me a virtual "kiss"

ShowOfHands · 25/09/2011 18:33

We had a ceilidh too so bowled up and down the barn we were in, twirling and clapping.
