To think that if you have a Horse...

you should have to scoop up their crap! If you had a dog that messed on a pavement there would be outrage if you didn't pick it up, but if you are riding your horse and it craps everywhere you can just ride off and leave it?

What do you think?

I think you're daft. Dog poo can be harmful to health, horse poo isn't. Pick it up and put it on your roses ifyou're that bothered.

I think that would have to be some pretty big poopa scoopa and poo bags you would have to carry around in your pocket ><

My step father used to stop and pick it up and put it in the boot of the car for his roses. We never owned a horse though.....................

Oh and horses should be on the road not the pavement so I do agree it shouldn't be on pavements.

It's not full of dangerous bacteria like dog poo. Why not get a bag and get it yourself? Free fertiliser (once rotted down a bit more). Grin

Horse poo is fine and jolly good for your garden.

Dog poo is disgusting and causes diseases.

Depends where it is, its not as gross as dog shit and is good for the roses... BUT if its at the side of the road where people will walk, yes, I do think horse owners should shovel it at least into the verge.

I'm very pro-horse, anti-shitofanykindonmyshoe... fortunately horse shit is big enough to see and small enough to step over. But still.

You can't put it straight on your roses either if a) you don't have roses and b) its fresh, but you can put it in your composter and its great for spud growing come the spring. However not everyone wants to shovel shit for their potatoes, so YANBU. If its where you'll step, then owners should shovel it.

They do round here (lots of stud farms) and sell it to us for our roses at £1 a bag.

How exactly is a rider supposed to
A) carry the utensils to scoop the poop
B) transport said poop back to the stables

Horse poo is made up of grass and grain and biodegrades very quickly.

You'd hate it in my town - 2,000 odd racehorses using the streets everyday! That's a lot of poo!

Horses poo in the road, you shouldn't be on th epavement. And it's just processed grass - nothing like dog mess at all.

Also, have you seen/smelt those pony and traps in Central Park, NY? They have a kind of trough which the poor horses' shit drops straight into, and they smell absolutely terrible. I feel quite sorry for the poor horses who have to plod around dragging their fermented shit behind them. Dreadful.

If a horse craps on the road/pavement anywhere near us, people dash out with their shovels and fight over it.

Actually I think horse poo, horses being herbivores, is much less offensive than dog poo.

I'm just not really bothered by horse poo, or cow poo (we used to get cow poo all over the road where I used to live as the cows were taken down the road from the field to be milked.)

I think they are rural hazards. (Of course if you live in a town, it's a bit different). What do Mounted Police do about horse crap?

Its really a bit tricky to do Hmm I do try and kick dponys poo into the hedge when he and ds are hacking on the lead rein, but even that isn't that easy to manage

I'm constantly buggy dodging it and stopping my DS trying to jump in it or worse pick it up! I know it's not as bad as dog crap but if it's on a pavement I think something should be done?
