AIBU?

To think that if you have a Horse...

you should have to scoop up their crap! If you had a dog that messed on a pavement there would be outrage if you didn't pick it up, but if you are riding your horse and it craps everywhere you can just ride off and leave it?

What do you think?

Actually, horseshit doesn't even smell that bad compared to many other stinks of urban lfe (unless its being dragged around in a trough connected to the poor horse, that is).
I'd rather sniff horseshit than l'air du Victoria Line at 8.15am, come to think of it....

YABU. Scoop it up and pop it on the compost heap! Have you recently moved to the country? You'll get used to it!

it won't hurt you, it's not like dog poo teeming with roundworm to make you blind or all the other scary things

I LIKE the smell of horse poo

You need to have a word with Her Majesty.

You should have seen the pile of horse poo outside Buck Palace when I visited the other week.

Tsk.

Lynx aftershave for one.

Impulse body spray.

'Poison' by ? Dior? (my auntie wears it) it's vile.

stop being an eejit, OP Hmm

Horse poo is not harmful to your health, and exactly where are these riders going to put it? I can't see how riding round with a shovel and a bin bag is exactly safe!!

Report
MitchiestInge · 19/09/2011 20:34

that is not the same thing as toxoplasmosis is it?

anyway horse poo is definitely not as smelly as dog poo and probably not very hazardous to health either

- so there should be no horseshit on pavements;

But they do ride on pavements, so it is on the pavements.

I know it's not like dog poo but I still don't want it on my buggy wheels or my dd's shoes. It's still shit. You do get a bit fed up when you see it everywhere.

We used to have a bit of land just outside our gate that horseriders used to use instead of crossing the road. It was forever full of horse poo so I recovered it in fine gravel. Now they don't use it cos they don't like the gravel in the horses feet. Problem solved. Then we moved!

theflyingonion bin bag in pocket, shovel over shoulder... its what they do round here, and I must say, they look rather dapper.

Anywhere but the pavement is fine. Consideration should be made for people who use the pavement, and why the fuck a horse is on a pavement I don't know.

Round here, it's the wild ones that shit on the pavements.

Sensible homeowners have cattle grids on their drives, and wellies for walkies Grin

Anyone who thinks horse poo smells should probably sign a petition to get badgers culled. That stuff could be used in biological warfare.

do people actually ride on pavements? We ride on the road, thought it was illegal to go on pavements

Report
squareegg · 19/09/2011 20:39

SO not unreasonable, and every car driver should scrape up the CO2 they emit as they drive along too....

Hmm

Bet you'll be whining when said horse bolts when rider has dismounted and is shovelling shit, it could make a break for your garden and crap all over there.

MrsJB - no one should be riding a horse (or pony) on the pavement - it's potentially quite dangerous.
Verges - OK; pavements, no,no,no, no, no! (Tell them, if youy have to...)

Tchootnika · 19/09/2011 20:40

I'm fairly sure it's illegal to ride on pavements, too, M.Inge. (It should be...)

Mrsjason, you must be unlucky then. Horses round here don't go on pavements. Perhaps ask the council for advice as they shouldn't be on them. Are you in the country?

Report
MrsJasonBourne · 19/09/2011 20:42

Yeeesss... is that likely Square?

I don't know if it's actually illegal but horses are classed as transport and therefore are really supposed to stay on the road. I know bikes aren't allowed on pavements, is it the same for horses?

(Disclaimer; I know bikes don't shit on pavements, I was just making the comparison)

(sigh)

Yes jade we're in the country. We're surrounded by the bloody things!

Actually we have moved from there now and they can't get near our house now unless they want a nice trot down a private drive and then an even quicker canter back up when the dogs see them!

I don't actually mind horses, they're quite nice animals.

There are entire sections of the queens guard dedicated to pooh patrol.
If it's good enough for the queen I would say that all mnetters with horses should follow her example..... QUICK!!Grin

Well it's not safe to dismount in traffic and try to hold onto a horse while picking up poo MJB. I've ridden incredibly bomb proof horses who would find that unnerving, it's not something they're used to.

Absolutely agree they shouldn't be on pavements though
