in a single year is taking the FUCKING piss?? As David Cameron has just started his fifth, I'd like to wish him heaps of shit and not a lot of fun. Seeing as he could barely be bothered to bring his to the yard when the rioting milkshake started (how gracious of him to finally turn up) this is just sickening.

People are KILLING themselves trying to make ends meet here (need I cite the AIBU stresshead threads about money, and the lack thereof..., I feel that pain!) and this is just ridiculous judgement on his part.

Or a total lack of.

ANd yes, I hate the fucking coalition, No, I think they didn't get a mandate to rule, I could boot Clegg quite happily up the arse - but these are all for other threads.

I heard about the five holidays on Radio 4 this morning and nearly spat out my tea!! Let's face it - he'll have at least one more before the year is out? He's entitled to a holiday, no question. But five???

Talk about how the other half live. Pah. Must be nice.

I am sort f with you on this one but I have no idea how long each of his hiliday has been or where it was taken. If it is five holiday of 2 weeks abroad I would say really bad but if it is 5 holiday of 1 week with maybe 1 a or two abroad and the rest in the UK (to make the econmy start back) I have less of a problem.

Also, I am pretty sure if I had the money myself I ould problaby make the most of it too

I've got 25 days leave per year and this year I am taking 4-5 holidays abroad. What's the problem? If he can afford it, he can do what he wants on his annual leave. Everyone needs a break.

As gorionine says, if it's 5 weeks in total then that's standard annual leave stuff. Are you as bitter about other people with money or just him?

YABU matching him against the plebs. Match his holiday needs to that of other Old Etonians and I think you may find he's managing to keep up.
Although you'd need to match destinations and accommodations to be really sure.

Holidays are what I live and work for! I would certainly have 5 or more a year if I could afford it.

But I can't, he can so who am I to begrudge him? It's entirely up to him what he spends his wages on.

Cameron shows no leadership of the economic crisis, the crisis of policing and the farce that is currently the Met, he spouts about 'The Big Society', yet by this taking of five holidays, shows he is clearly not part of it.

I have no problem with being thought unreasonable, trust me... but if he wants to be seen as a man of the people - which his TV performances totally made him out to wish to be - then taking FIVE holidays at a time when food aid charities are reporting a surge in numbers of people wanting help - then I think he is so far from being in touch, it's untrue.

THis is why I'm a socialist. I don't believe that a society should have poor. Nor should they have the rich. He shows a lack of judgement that I find worrying for our PM.

Echoing gapants - wtf has Blair got to do with this? 'm talking about Cameron.

We'll have had five holidays by the end of the year. Nowhere too extravagant , all in this country. We are not loaded but that's what DH likes to do with his annual leave and so we budget accordingly during the rest of the year to enable us to achieve this.

However, I do think he should have come home sooner during the riots. That possibility comes with the job.

If he has had 5 full weeks of holiday does that mean that's it for this year? No more odd days off etc as that's the standard annual leave allowance for most people

I'd take the holidays of I could afford it and he obviously can but when you commit to being PM you have to be seen to be in the right place etc and atm DC isn't giving off the right vibes.

I am constantly amazed that anyone expects any politician to act any differently. Politicians, largely without exception, are morally questionable and self interested. Have been since the dawn of time. Why would you think he'd be any different?

Personally, I want the man in charge of the country to NOT be working 24/7 52 weeks a year. I want him to have a rest. For god sakes, he lives above the shop so to speak.

I don't think the holidays have been long and quite modest considering what they could afford.

Maybe he should have come home sooner - but perhaps he put his family first just this once and I thought mumsnet was all for that.

Every full-time employee un the UK is entitled to 25 days' statutory annual leave. That's five one-week breaks.

Politics aside, he's recently suffered the loss of a child, the loss of a parent, and had a new baby, as well as becoming PM. That merits a few holidays imo.

We will go away 5, possibly 6 times this year. Mostly long weekends, often camping (though not exclusively - week in POrtugal at Easter). Dh work away MOn-Fri and we feel this is important from a POV of his stress levels and also actually spending time together as a family. I imagine Samantha Cameron may feel similarly. And lets not think that he will be incommunicado at times when he is away - he is never off-duty and probably chairs a number of video conference meetings during each hol.

I am not a Tory and actually can't bear Cameron but feel quite meh about this non-issue.

YABU, none of your business really. I can't imagine getting angry about someone else's holidays. We usually go away several times a year too, nothing extravagant - sometimes just a few days camping here and there over the summer, a walking/cottage holiday in the spring or autumn, maybe a short city break in Europe, a week skiing in winter - why not, it's nice to get away if you can afford it and can take the time.

I know some people are struggling and probably can't afford holidays at the moment - and that's a shame - but how does it affect them if others do? I grew up in a poor family and we could hardly ever afford to go anywhere, but I don't remember us getting worked up about other people going on holidays if they could afford it. Don't see what jealousy achieves really.

I am no fan of David Cameron, but YABU.

He has a young family and a very high pressured job. He works long hours and probably wants to spend some time with his children.

As some other posters have said, holidays are what get me through the weeks. DH works a stressful job and I have a disabled child to look after 24/7.

I understand he can afford it, and he probably feels he needs it, but I still feel it's enormously insensitive To keep going off on breaks at a time when so many families are struggling. Particularly going to Cornwall because his holiday to tuscany was cut short due to the riots gives me the impression once again that he felt hugely inconvenienced by having to return because of what was going on.

Guess all those complaining don't take your annual leave entitlement then?

It's hardly an outrage someone taking the time off to which they are entitled.

And to echo stillcrackers he has had a fairly stressful couple of years I would much prefer anyone with any degree of responsibility to be able to get the R&R they require.

PPPop to be fair he was hugely inconvenienced by having to return. Wouldn't you have been? No one likes their holiday to be cut short or cancelled whatever the reason.

Regardless of his political party if he's here as PM he's always going to be aware of what's going on. I think he should be able to have holidays and enjoy time away as a family, it must be odd enough for the children to be constantly under scrutiny and daddy always with his ear to the phone.

I'm all for having August as one big bank holiday for all
