To say stop apologising for linking to Daily Mail?

Most threads that I've come across that have a link to an article link to the Daily Mail. Almost all of these threads have an OP who apologises profusely for this. AIBU to think stop bloody apologising as it's clearly something you've found interesting because otherwise you wouldn't have linked to it??

Because it's MN law that you have to (pretend to) hate the DM.

In my case I get to link to the Dm for my bursts of rage, but don't give them the page views by doing it through istyosty.com/ Marvellous website.

And no, my stance is nothing to do with MN, I've always found the DM rage-inducing and generally stay away from it. But every now and then it's good to have a refreshing burn-out!

I don't read the Daily Wail either but I couldn't give a shiny shit what others read or decide to link to.

Either discuss the subject they're raising or leave the thread...but moaning about the link in the OP or apologising for it is just a bit wanky really.

It's so childish!

Everone secretly loves the DM - it's like an addiction. Their online edition is a godsend, as people can get their fix without actually being seen with a copy.

As I get older I find it's The Guardian that gets steam issuing from my ears. The sight of Polly Toynbee's face makes my fist clench automatically.

i love DM, I read it and teh Guardian every day, . I find those who scream about how much they hate DM to be pretty bigoted in their own Guardian clutching way. What is wrong with reading a variety of different papers to get a balanced view? Yes, the views et out in DM do tend to be classically rigth wing, but if yuo do not agree, buy a different paper or maybe consdier reading it an exrecise in challenging yuor own preconceptions and prejudices. The Guardian is not always rigth and nor is the DM always wrong.

There's nothing wrong with reading the DM, but you have to read it in secret whilst pretending you never, ever would.

It's the illicitness that makes it exciting.....

Yeah I read the Daily Mail - it's got the easiest crossword I can actually do without Google. It's also not a broadsheet cos I never mastered the art of reading them without looking like a demented failed origami artist - and it's good for a laugh.

YABU - if anyone does link to the DM it should be pre-fixed with an apology. Preferable is to not link to it, but hey.

I use the DM website as I find it easier to read and find my way around than many other news websites. I rarely read all the dross in the editorials (is that what they're called?) written by the people FreudianSlipper listed.

I also read the BBC news website too for a bit of balance!

FreudianSlipper, I disagree. It would not be a bad thing to be in a building with those people all at the same time - unless you had run out of ammunition, or had left your grenade in the other handbag.

If people really did feel sorry about it then they wouldn't keep reading it!

I only read it if it's a link on here and something that I find mildly curious... I do feel scummy after visiting the site though given all the shit down the right hand side of the page attacking and vilifying women for their looks and relationships.

And just because it's on the right doesn't make reading it "balance" out reading lefty news. Balance is achieved by comparing like for like, not comparing journalism and fact-finding with controversial opinion dressed up as fact!!

Plus the Guardian is only one form of lefty paper, some of us on the left aren't big state lefties, just as there are people I know on the right who wouldn't go near the Daily Mail cos it's a rag not a newspaper!!

Liz Jones may write trash, but she's also one of the few female journos to continually question to use of emaciated models. Some of the columnists may be misogynists, but some are feminists, including the fabulous Janet Street Porter.

I even found myself agreeing with Littlejohn this week (the looting was born out of consumer greed rather than political motivation)

Someone on Mumsnet said on a thread this morning that all Daily Mail readers were bigots. I disagree, anyone who utters a sentence like that is a bigot.

I read the Daily Mail every day. It's wise to know your enemy.

It's a classic edition today with 'why oh why' articles on the riots including 'How Liberals Ruined Britain' by Mad Mel Phillips, 'Have the courage to be bold Mr Cameron. Most of our country is on your side,' from Stephen Glover, who inexplicably missed me out from his extensive opinion poll and a readers' letters special, sample being: 'Make the wearing of hoods a capital offence illegal.'

They're getting themselves in a bit of a pickle over law and order by praising the Sikhs With Swords who stood outside their temple in Southall and the Turkish men in Dalston who 'rose up' armed with baseball bats and snooker cues to defend their 'bustling community', Mailspeak for 'place where dark-skinned people haggle over strange vegetables'.

Normally the carrying of offensive weapons would be something the Mail would demand be punished to the full extent of the law if not further.

But it's okay today on Daily Mail Island because they're forrin and defending the family values that the rest of are all too cowed by the PC Brigade or pissed on alcopops to express.

Strangely no mention of the stout yeomen of the English Defence League who've been touring the streets of Eltham and Enfield looking for darkies to beat up keeping them safe for decent people.

Re Liz Jones, can't say I'm very familiar with her written output but I did hear her on Woman's Hour a couple of years ago discussing the extensive depilation that is just about compulsory for women these days.

She was very impressive - intelligent, serious and articulate - which is more than could be said for the tittering Jenni Murray and the female comic who'd been trundled on because, let's face it, no discussion is complete these days without the input of a comedian.
