I had to run the gauntlet to get DD in her car seat and DS strapped in today in a car that was covered in about two dozen wasps. The bastards were still clinging on at 60mph.

i listened to some bloke the other day moaning to his son about how wasps were useless as a species, but they aren't really they just eat the sugar we throw out

I am allergic to the stings so when my friend said "I can't believe you just KILLED it!" My thought was "It was him or me" (And I am very afraid so killed it at a distance of some feet. With murderous wasp spray. And I'm NOT sorry).

Wasps are predators and thus they help in the control of many other insect species. Also some wasps are pollinators to. They really are useful creatures. They didn't evolve to sting people.

I would refuse to treat it, BitterAndTwisted, unless it was to PTS it My defence is that they also sting dogs and cats, and cause horrible reactions, the nasty nasty beasts.

It does! It freezes the buggers in a haze of glue and gunk. I was stung many times during lessons at secondary school in the early eighties.

By the late eighties I knew how to combat the yellow and black little bastards.

PS flea spray for the house works on wasps too! I spray it liberally around windows at the start of the summer- nothing to pollinate in my house, so they can piss off!

I hate wasps and always flap around like a loon when they come near me!!! I dont really remember, but apparently i was stung as a child by a wasp which has probably contributed to my phobia of them!

There MUST have been a nest today at my friend's house - there were dozens of the buggers. And they were ANGRY. Her MIL lives next door ans showed an admirable murderous attitude towards them (she is also allergic). BTW Madame Lupino - I feel your pain - horseflies are lower on my hit list, but still on there.

I hate the evil little bastards. Hairspray is also my weapon of choice although it's a bitch to get off the window afterwards.

DH is of the "don't flap them" school. We argue about it every year.

Forgot to mention - trod on one last year in DS's room. Got me between the toes. My foot was throbbing all night. Evil I tell you. Evil.

Thank goodness there are other people on this thread that think the same. I get so fed up of the "they won't harm you" brigade. They are harming me by existing. They ruin my summer completely.

I have also sprayed the feckers with hairspray when I had no wasp spray. One even got a dose of WD-40 when there was nothing else handy!!
