To eat bits of my child?

Name changed here as what I'm going to admit sounds rather appaling. I have a lovely new baby, and her skin is flaking off now thanks to her being a tad overdue. The skin underneath is perfect and peachy soft. The bits that are coming off are causing her no discomfort. Anyway, when she's feeding I find myself plucking at her skin and teasing away bits that are ready to come off. And eating them. Is this cannabalism?? She doesn't appear to notice, and I only caught myself doing it once, and thought WTF??? For what it's worth i used to bite my older dd's nails when she was a baby, and nibble them up. It just seemed an automatic reaction to pop the bits of skin in my mouth, who knows how many bits i'd scoffed before I realised what I was doing. So, erm, aibu?

I think this is one of those posts where every word uttered would be better left unsaid... Ewww Blush

lawnimp · 24/07/2011 22:21

Grin it's not cannabilism

madhattershouse · 24/07/2011 22:21

YANBU to pick at the bits..I'm a terrible one for that. Eating them though??? Eeeww, not canibalism just sounds too much like eating dandruff

SpecialFriedRice · 24/07/2011 22:23

YANBU to pick them off, I did the same with my DD who was 12 dyas late and her entire body flaked!

You are being a minger for eating them though! :P

Surely this is "pica" op? I.e eating non-food stuffs. It's grim either way, but I'm pretty sure it won't kill you so no harm done I s'pose.

RevoltingPeasant · 24/07/2011 22:24

As long as you are not still doing it when she is 21, she will probably not develop serious boundaries issues Wink

It is a bit grim, but I think I we all do stuff like this almost without noticing. I always scratch dry pieces of skin off DP's head (though I don't eat them....).

Mare11bp · 24/07/2011 22:24

Loving your name with linked post.

If you are a troll you are funny. If you are not I still think YANBU.

discobeaver · 24/07/2011 22:24

Some people eat the placenta, some people eat bits of thier baby...

Bleurgh.

mistressploppy · 24/07/2011 22:25

I eat the bit that come off me (little bits of skin around the nails Blush) and I think I'd be tempted in your situation, as your DC feel like extensions of you, IYSWIM Grin

So YANBU IMO, but then I'm clearly a freak too...

MoonGirl1981 · 24/07/2011 22:25

Yes, you're a bit strange.

Is up to you though, if you're happy then you're happy.

Try not to do it abesent mindedly in public though!

:)

mistressploppy · 24/07/2011 22:26

..eat the bits that come off...

discobeaver · 24/07/2011 22:27

Maybe the OP just needs a juicy steak.

pigletmania · 24/07/2011 22:31

Oh I am a picker, always have been since I was 5, I used to pick of dd peeling foot skin, but eating it ewwwwwww Envy

Driftwood999 · 24/07/2011 22:35

Other mammals do this, washing the body of the infant with their tongue, removing dirt and sloughing off dead skin cells. YANBU, enjoy your baby.

AmazingBouncingFerret · 24/07/2011 22:39

I'd imagine that biscuits and cake are much nicer...

Fox's do those little chocolate viennese biscuits in a large "sharing" packet. Why not try some of those? Grin

MoonGirl1981 · 24/07/2011 22:41

Oooooo, I love Foxes chocolate vienneses!!

2 packets for £1.50 in Iceland!!

:)

Anything's better than dead baby skin.

AmazingBouncingFerret · 24/07/2011 22:52

Oh pee off, i'm sober, my typing and general grammar is always atrocious when sober! Plus i'm all freaked out by the spider in the mouth thread to tink properly! Grin

SarahStratton · 24/07/2011 22:53

Spider in mouth thread?

I'm going to bed before this gets any worse.

Maybe not. The spider's worse, for one thing.

MissVerinder · 24/07/2011 23:04

What?!?!

YADBU

Kallista · 24/07/2011 23:09

Go to your local 24-hr garage. Get some Haribo. Get LOTS of Haribo. Better to eat sweets than become a cannibal. You are not stuck in the Siege of Leningrad. ;)
Re: spider eating - not seen that thread! I remember getting stoned with some lads & one of them ate it a huge spider that was crawling across the carpet. I was so stoned just laughed & laughed...
OP - really - just don't eat your baby's skin flakes. Also picking at it may cause infection. Better to let it flake off. Distract yourself if you feel like picking - eg. eat a Haribo.
