BOYCOTTING SAINSBURYS-Unfair parking ticket and shoddy customer services from Sainsburys- store manager.

Lipstickgal · 04/07/2011 15:24

i am feeling so angry. I will explain this as briefly as possible.
We have restrictions in our Sainsburys car park which is that you are allowed to park for two hours and not return within two hours. Fine.
I do my shop on Thurs, arrive just before 10am and leave 11am. I have my receipt to substantiate this.
I then drive to another supermarket of which I also have a receipt that shows I left there at 11.30am.
I go home, unpack and collect my son from Grammar sch at 1.15pm. It is a 20 min drive away. He then asks if he can pop in to get some stationary bits so I return to the carpark around 2pm after popping home.
Later I find I have been given ticket saying I have parked from 10.15 until 2.10.
Clearly this is not the case so I took myself down to Sainburys with the receipts and explained that I could collaborate my whereabouts and was out of the carpark longer than 2 hours. I am asked by the duty manager to return on Monday as he can't cancel the ticket but the store manager can at his discretion. So back I go this morning only to experience the worst customer service ever.
I was basically made to feel like a liar because he questioned my whereabouts for 10 mins, in an itinerary fashion, and then told me he didn't have the authority to overturn this ticket. He was surly and obnoxious. I rang customer careline when I got home to log a complaint and they told me that he could have recinded this ticket as it was indeed at his discretion. I am not a liar and feel very strongly about how I was mistreated. I said they should look on their CCTV if they wanted to see exactly when I came and left and they would find it to be as I said. I said if the matter wasn't resolved I and my immmediate family would never shop there again. At this point he turned and said that that was up to me!
The liar in this case was the Store Manager.
The person I spoke on the phone asked me what I wanted and I said an apology and the ticket recinded. She then said that 'I have apologised'! I was so shocked I just told her that I would be putting all my concerns in writing and took her name. They don't like that do they? She asked me why I wanted her name and I then had to explain that I still wasn't satisfied with the level of customer care etc. We spend about £6,000 a year in this shop.
WIBU in never shopping at Sainsburys again? I actually feel intimidated because this store manager made a real scene of the situation and belittled me. Anyone else experienced anything like this?

I haven't got the chance to read the whole thread, but should you choose to engage with the parking company, do this:

Open by saying you'll see them in court - you're challenging the validity of their findings and don't wish to engage in any interim step. That being the case, ask them for a copy of their CCTV evidence, their public space policies and procedures, their data storage procedures, their ICO registration certificate, the SIA licence numbers of the operatives viewing it, (the individual staff MUST hold their own valid CCTV SIA licence!) and the name and correspondence address for their legal team, so that you can pass it all to yours.

Watching a car park is Public Space Surveillance and there are some really strict rules and regs and how/who and when it can be done. I work in Security and I've challenged something very similar in exactly the same way. The spluttering on the other end of the phone was priceless.

Or you could just ignore. They really won't escalate beyond a few letters, because court action would see them having to provide all of the above

deepbreath · 14/07/2011 13:06

Hope you get somewhere, OP. I am being threatened with court action at the moment by a private parking company that operated Netto car park. We were only a couple of minutes over the one hour maximum stay because they had got 2 checkouts open. and both myself and my MIL have mobility problems so couldn't run back to the car. I appealed and got nowhere, but there is no way that I am going to pay - think they upped it to £150 on their last letter.

Their lettter also said something along these lines: don't pay attention to what online forums like MSE advise about this not being enforcible, we are using x section of the law to enforce this. We are being serious. (NB - they didn't use exactly these words, but it was to this effect!)

Pancakeflipper · 14/07/2011 14:13

Deepbreath - they really have no scruples. But they cannot enforce it. Don't enter communication with them as they prey on peoples anxieties.

cumbria81 · 14/07/2011 14:18

just dont pay. if it does end up in court you will win.

ivykaty44 · 14/07/2011 19:11

Saw this in our local paper tonight - in the letters to the editor - was that you?

ilovesprouts · 14/07/2011 19:34

Please everybody just chill out I parked right under the sign in Asda car park which stated blah blah court blah ticket blah fine blah blah. It was their fault why i was there but thats another story. I came out to see a chap put a parking ticket under my wiper, I was livid. I went to my car and took the ticket from where he had placed it and marched up behind him, excuse me i said. Then I shoved the ticket down his top, not roughly as didn't want to get prosecuted for assault and said that this ticket is illegal and I have no intentions of paying for it. The trolley boy pointed at me and said I was barred and this point I burst out laughing and said I quake in my boots. Never heard anything, not about the ticket or being barred. Although my friends find it hilarious that I was barred from Asda

OP - why are you reviving all these old threads about parking? Just seen one about parking in McDonalds from Oct 2008 that you'd dredged up.

Bloodymary · 07/12/2011 19:01

I second what choppy has just said. WHY?

norcam29 · 30/11/2018 22:41

I had a bad experience I shopped in sainsburys earlier this month.
I received a ticket in the post on Monday saying I had overstayed by 15 minutes. It was totally untrue and just a ploy to get money out of me.The fine is extortionate and totally unreasonable. I will never go there again.

Collaborate · 30/11/2018 23:37

@norcam29 I had a bad experience this evening. I was browsing MN and I clicked on a parking thread only to find it's a sodding zombie thread. WTF are you doing reviving it? Bloody hell.

You deserve your fine. It's God's punishment for being the kind of person who revives zombie threads.

norcam29 · 02/12/2018 16:49

How cruel .I didn't know it was a zombie thread I was just relaying my experiences !!!!!

slashlover · 02/12/2018 16:56

When you went to type in the box it would have told you that the thread was old.

Sainsbury parking, I was charged £80 for going over the time by 9min I had the parking charge sent to me while I was away on holiday, I got back with one day to spare as it had been a bank hol while I was away. I paid immediately so my charge was reduced to £48. We have contacted Sainsbury’s but they say charges apply to all no matter what. In future we are boycotting Sainsbury’s and I hope all who read this will take note.

HarryElephante · 24/05/2019 10:55

But you overstayed. The signs clearly state a time limit. Why is this Sainsbury's problem? It's clearly your fault.

DappledThings · 24/05/2019 11:05

ZOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOMBIE

Sparklingbrook · 24/05/2019 11:11

I wonder if after nearly 8 years the OP has forgiven Sainsburys. Grin

LadyRannaldini · 24/05/2019 13:30

Go to they Daily Mail about it! (It's a rag I know but they love this kind of thing)

Don't you love MN hypocrisy! Akin to saying Well yes Hitler was bad but he made the trains run on tim! ie they have their use when it suits me.

LadyRannaldini · 24/05/2019 13:31

Just seen the date!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

CaptainButtock · 24/05/2019 13:37

‘Grammar school’ no less.

fairweathercyclist · 24/05/2019 14:25

I am sick of these retailers using private companies for their car parks and then pretending they can't do anything about tickets.

Dogs and tails wagging? It's ridiculous. They are the customer of the parking company, they call the shots.

I know in some cases shops are on a business park where the landlord has the relationship with the parking company but it's unlikely to be the case with the supermarkets.

fairweathercyclist · 24/05/2019 14:26

Oh flippin heck why do people reopen old threads when there's a warning that tells you it's old! AAAGH!

However, my point still stands - and it still goes on, 8 years on, which is rubbish.

MLMhun · 24/05/2019 14:30

It happened to me at Aldi. I sent 2 separate receipts to Parking Eye and they cancelled the charge. I didn’t deal with anyone in store.

CountArthursgroupie · 24/05/2019 23:13

Justin King, @MrsBethel? He left Sainsbury's in 2014, I doubt if he'll be bothered!
