To HATE dancing?!

LibbyLou123 · 04/07/2011 11:35

Was out on Saturday night and everyone was dancing, and I ended up being dragged up to dance too.
I absolutely hate it with a passion. I feel like such an idiot, and really am the worst dancer ever.
Anyone else feel the same or is it just me? As most of my friends I ever go out with can't wait to get onto the dance floor

Yep, I feel your pain Libby! Hence why I get really drunk when I go out, then I can dance the night away. I can't dance when I'm sober, my mum drummed it into my head for years that I have no rhythm (thanks Mum!)

Nowtspecial · 04/07/2011 11:40

It's like my legs belong to someone else.

Birdsgottafly · 04/07/2011 11:41

I am going to a wedding this month and i am dreading it because i don't dance. TBH i wish i did, it looks fun, but i can not get over being self concious.

bucaneve · 04/07/2011 11:50

Aw, of course YANBU if you feel really self-conscious.

But, I feel a bit sad for you guys though. I love dancing, it is one of the things in the world that makes me happiest. When I hear music, I just can't help but move.

I think if people are enjoying themselves then no one is a bad dancer. Seriously, I watch a lot of people dance in clubs and stuff, and I never think"oh they are really rubbish".

Maybe if you all practise in your bedrooms you will feel better about it, and want to do it in front of others.

MissPenteuth · 04/07/2011 11:51

I need to be very at least slightly drunk before I lose my inhibitions enough to dance. I love dancing actually, I'm just too shy to do it.

TheAtomicBum · 04/07/2011 11:54

Yes, I used to do that when I was younger. Just get blathered and then it's OK. Made many a fool of myself in the progress.

Then I evolved into getting blathered and sitting down and picking someone to have a very deep drunken talk with. Made many a fool of myself in the progress. Hmm. Seeing a pattern forming here...

BulletWithAName · 04/07/2011 12:00

The thing is though, I'm not a shy person at all. Just very self-concious, which is why I need booze to lose my inhibitions, otherwise I know I won't have a good time. Bad, I know, but I can't help it.

DialsMavis · 04/07/2011 12:02

I am a terrible dancer, I hate it. Its not fair....

AlpinePony · 04/07/2011 12:04

YANBU.

tyler80 · 04/07/2011 12:10

Yanbu and you are not alone. I'm never quite sure why it's acceptable to force people to dance. I don't force people to come rock climbing, for example, as I know some would hate it. I'd like the same consideration in return and not be dragged onto the dance floor. I don't need anyone's pity because I loathe dancing.re not alone. I'm watching and imagining being married to one of these men Grin Grin

TheAtomicBum · 04/07/2011 12:43

Hully, you've obviously never seen me dance. If you can picture a three legged spider having some sort of fit, it would be pretty close Grin.

bucaneve · 04/07/2011 12:45

BulletWithAName that kind of dance class is how I've spent a lot of my evenings Grin

BoysRusxxx · 04/07/2011 12:46

I love a good dance when im drunk. I have danced a few times sober, like when i was pregnant.

If you think about it, dancing is so weird. Everyone goes to the middle of the room and moves around to music!

FreudianSlipper · 04/07/2011 12:49

i love dancing

i trained in dance but still feel self conscious sometimes. best to practise, you can get out of the habit, and once you let yourself go at home you will not feel so self conscious when you are out, i just tone it down a little when out

BulletWithAName · 04/07/2011 12:52

bucaneve- You must have some fantastic evenings out then! Grin

Al0uiseG · 04/07/2011 12:53

Have an E and go with the flow. allegedly

TheAtomicBum · 04/07/2011 12:54

Yes, Boys, it is a bit strange. You go into the centre of the rooms and just try to move in some sort of rhythmic pattern to ... uh ... do something.

I'm sure heard some psychologist say it's like the human equivilent of a mating dance. Even if you're not actually trying to mate, it's got some sort of subconscious things about showing what kind of lover you are.

Al0uiseG · 04/07/2011 12:58

I always stand on objects, chairs, tables, stairs, steps Hmm I wonder what the fuck that means Confused

Mischif · 04/07/2011 13:50

YANBU I'm no good at dancing either. Some stranger at a Ceroc class even said to me, "well you have the steps, but you have absolutely no rhythm". I find it mortifying unless I'm quite squiffy. Was horrified when a mum on a play date came round and suggested we do some dancing in the living room.

lisianthus · 04/07/2011 14:15

I highly dislike dancing too, and I completely agree with tyler that it bemuses me why some people think it is OK to force us non-dancers to dance. I don't enjoy it, and I don't force dancers to do things that I find fun.

LibbyLou - You are not alone and YANBU!
