to have called an ambulance?

Just been out walking the dog, on our way home we saw a young girl (16-17) lying by the side of the park. No one else anywhere near her.

So I went over to see if she was ok, she wasn't able to focus, could barely hold her head up. So I asked if she'd taken anything, and when she nodded, I asked what. She told me she didn't know.

So I figured it was best to err on the side of caution and ran home (couple of doors away) to grab my phone and call an ambulance.

When I got back her "friends" had reappeared, and were very obviously not impressed at me calling the ambulance.

I feel like it was the right thing to do, but their reaction has made me doubt myself.

i would as well, you didnt know what she had done, her friends were probably annoyed because it gets them in trouble

You did the right thing. Her friends were probably pissed off because they might get in trouble for taking drugs. No way could you have done anything else.

Why do you care whether a group of drugged up teenagers think you did the right thing anyway? You know you did really, right?

YABU to doubt yourself because of a few druggy teenagers.

Were you still there when the ambulance arrived? Did the crew think a semi-unconscious person was trivial?

Not just drugs/alcohol to consider, she could have been having a diabetes related episode. Either way, she clearly needed help.

Of course you were right. And WTF were her friends doing leaving her on her own? When I was young and daft and tried mind-altering substances we all looked after each other. Or at least stuck together.

YANBU for calling them, after all she said she was unsure of what she had taken.

You would be VU if you didn't wait with her & check she waited for the ambulance.

YANBU, you did the right thing.

You can never know for sure what something bought on the street actually is. There is no guarantee it is what the dealer claims it to be. I have had patients sold both warfarin and digoxin as diazepam. Tat's just too instances I can think off at the moment. Hope the girl is OK.

I don't know, I guess because I've never been around drugs, I just wasn't sure if I'd overreacted. Confused

I'm glad no one else thinks I did.

I waited for the ambulance, though left as soon as they came over. By that time there were so many people hanging around, I felt we were in the way.

Anyway, it's obviously going to be a unanimous YANBU.

The brother of my DS1's friend died 2wks ago aged just 22...having tried some new sort of 'party drug' just the once.

His mates got him to hospital in a taxi but he died of a heart attack on the way. So I'd never take any chances Sad

You did the exactly the right thing OP. I did something similar a while ago, DD and her friends were queuing for one of these teenage nightclub/disco things and I was lurking nearby to check they got in ok. A girl collapsed on the pavement across from the queue, her friends said she had drunk a lot of vodka but did not want her parents to know. The girl was out cold, totally non-responsive so I rang 999.

It's better to be safe than sorry

Bohica I don't even know what it was he took. All I know was it was a 'new' party drug?

Either way, I can't help thinking he might have been saved if he'd got to hospital sooner Sad

Of course you did the right thing. My 16 yo is out tonight and I must admit to searching your name to see if you had posted wrt living in my area. Stupid, I know, there are hundreds of thousands of young girls of about that age in the Uk but Christ kids are a worry and heaven forbid that it was one of our children we, and all decent parents, would be eternally grateful to you for calling that ambulance.

You know you did the right thing and I can't believe any sane adult would doubt themselves on the say so of a few teenagers that had obviously taken drugs and then abandoned their friend.

Actually, the fact that they are teenagers is enough. Yabu to even ask the question.

Probably the same for the friends of the girl Empusa called about tonight, better to be safe than sorry imo.

Unless your calling because you are pissed out of your head in your own home & cut your pinkie finger on a butter knife whilst making a late night bacon sarnie for yourself & 3 mates.

Then I'd say a plaster & a pint f water before bed you fuckwit, now get off the emergency line

Yeah I can understand that. Plus at that age, no-one's really experienced or sensible enough to work out when someone's just puking up...or if they really need emergency medical attention.

Still, it's something they'll all have to live with..including the poor family Sad

Oh I so wish you could say that too Grin
