To drink wine every night?

usually a glass or two with dinner, and on Friday & Saturday usually three or four throughout the evening.... I really look forward to my wine time & thoroughly enjoy it but am worried it's a tad too much, aibu??

No, it's fine. I'd drink wine every night too, if it wasn't for the calories and cost.

If you can't get through a week without a glass then things need to change.
If you get through it fine, have a bottle a night to celebrate (joke!).

lissie. You seem to have a bee in your bonnet about what should and what shouldn't be allowed in AIBU.
OP, I drink wine every night. IMO, as long as you aren't necking it from the bottle (or carton) and you are managing your life OK there isn't a problem.

Depends on the wine - and you.
If you're enjoying drinking it for it's taste etc, not necking it out of stress or boredom, not finding it's disappearing down your throat in ever increasing quantities, you can go without if you want to and it's not making you feel like crap, then it's probably fine.

I think health guidelines recommend no more than 14 units per week for women, so assuming the wine's average is 12% and you use (as most of us do) the large-ish glasses, you're consuming more than the recommended amount. Also guidelines (don't we just love guidelines) recommend 2 consecutives nights off alcohol to allow your liver to do its do.

However, you're probably drinking a similar amount in a similar way to our continental cousins ie usually a couple of glasses with your evening meal, not knocking it all back in one night then being sick on Threshers doorstep, which is not good physically or socially.

So up to you!

I think the "official" line is that you're supposed to try to have a couple of alcohol-free days a week to allow your liver to detox or whatever it is that livers do. Just make sure to drink plenty of water! Alcohol is REALLY dehydrating. Also, there are some specific statistics that link drinks per day to breast cancer risk; if that concerns you.

It's a fair bit more than is recommended but I'm sure you're aware of that. As octopus says, you're a grown up so you have to decide such things yourself. I'd probably cut it out for at least a few days just to confirm to myself that I hadn't become more reliant on it than I'd like to be, but then I like to know I'm in control.

Only thing to be brutal with yourself about is whether it really is 1-2 normal glasses. GPs often mentally double whatever anyone tells them to get the 'real' amount, yet people genuinely believe what they're saying. Given the size of lots of wine glasses now, a more reliable guage is how much wine is left at the end of the bottle at the end of the evening.

Personally I think that is too much. I was drinking less than that (4-5 night a week with 2 drinks most nights, 3-4 on one) and felt that it was getting too much. Do you feel ok in the morning? Red wine is good for you everyday if you have one small glass but I am guessing your glasses are more the large version as most peoples are nowadays.

Up to you but you are putting your health at risk drinking this much.

I suppose it depends how you feel if you couldn't have a glass on a certain night. Would you miss it and find it hard to go without?

To me it is too much but I am not you.

YABU... Unfortunately, a few years ago, I lost a good friend to liver failure brought on by excess alcohol consumption. She was no binge-drinker or alcoholic - just liked her wine in the evenings. Because the liver (I later found out) is a very resilient organ, it can be very damaged and still work OK with no outward signs of problems. But it eventually reaches a point where it packs up and the first the patient knows about it is that they are being heaved into an ambulance....

Try to have a few consecutive alcohol-free days each week.

It sounds a bit excessive, but not much. To reiterate what posters upthread have asked - could you go without? I love wine, but I always have 2 or 3 wine-free days a week to give my liver a rest.

It sounds like too much to me, but given the responses on this thread, perhaps it is very common to drink most nights or even every night.

Most people do things that are bad for their health. I eat too much fat. You drink too much.

I have 1 to 2 small glasses of wine every night. I probably should have alcohol free days but they are rare.

The link between breast cancer and alcohol consumption was upgraded in the last WCRF report from possible to probable cause (which is basically saying there is very good evidence that too much alcohol causes breast cancer). Also the French have much greater rates of liver disease and liver cancer and this is attributed to their alcohol consumption. Despite what you hear in the press, most doctors will agree that the odd binge (which still isn't good for you) is better than daily chronic consumption). Personally, I have cut right back since whilst you can't control everything, you can control this. I have 4 alcohol free days a week.
I really depends on how much you drink in a week. Sounds to me like you can get through 3-4 bottles which is a lot.

Anyway, YA necesssarily BU but I guess it depends on how much you value your health.

My mum drinks like fish, doesn't give a shit, has had breast cancer, got through it, has duff bones and is generally in a very bad nutritional state, but she still drinks!

I think it's fine. I used to have a glass a night (but am pregnant at the moment) and I did once say to DH that there was no juice in the house and that's why I was drinking wine!

Just have a couple of nights off here and there. We can't all be saints OP. I am looking forward to when I can taste lovely Pinot and bubbly again :)

The neighbours did once see my Gran drinking straight from the wine bottle at lunchtime - she reckoned she was just hot from gardening. She is about 82 now and in fine form.
