Swearing on mumsnet

Why is it okay for some cunt mumsnetter to be as patrionising and horrid as they like to someone and the minute they are told to 'fuck off' all hell breaks loose with the Hmm 's and Shock 's and "wow you're a nasty piece of work/real charmer Hmm " and "don't worry, I've just reported her " ... It really pisses me off!

MoreBeta · 28/06/2011 18:49

Swearing is fine.

Personal attacks are not.

There are no moderators, stuff only gets deleted if someone reports the post.

TrilllianAstra · 28/06/2011 18:52

I wish I were an unreportable missile of biting wittiness :o

Swearing I don't mind. Personal attacks I hate.

OracleInaCoracle · 28/06/2011 19:03

Ooh, its a bug bear of mine too. A poster will be an utter cunt, push you til you snap then get all passive aggressive with a "aren't we supposed to be adults?" "I pity your children" crapspout. If you can't handle being called a twat, don't behave like one

DarlingDuck · 28/06/2011 19:04

Rockerchic - But what if someone attacks horribly personally without swearing and is subsequently told to fuck off by the person they attacked?

OP posts:
DarlingDuck · 28/06/2011 19:04

lissielou - Exactly!

I swear, but not at people.

Rockerchic · 28/06/2011 19:08

I agree with Lou and I've seen it too often on here a OP gets all bolshy and sweary then starts attacking posters that don't agree with them.
Last time I looked this is an open forum a place to debate would be dull if we agreed with the OP all the time.
I got called a bitch on here yesterday by a poster I've never heard of before.
It wasn't warranted and was plain nasty, but that's how some on here act, it makes them feel better to attack you rather than listen to your views.

PlentyOfPrimroses · 28/06/2011 19:11

Before I came here I was on another forum where swearing was a big no-no but people could get away with being utterly vile towards each other. The sort of place you could get away with calling someone a 'retard' but talking about 'tits' could lead to a ban Sad It's part of why I left and it was such a relief to find MN's civilised, sweary culture Grin

Do 'fuck off' posts get removed? Are they classed as personal attacks?

Rockerchic · 28/06/2011 19:11

Darlingduck I'm all for someone telling a nasty person on here to fuck right off as they deserve it. I hope I treat people on here as I would in RL, give them the benefit of the doubt and try and help, or course we get the odd poster thats clearly a troll and here to stir the shit.

DarlingDuck · 28/06/2011 19:12

There are definately posters who like to goad others to the point they swear at them then take the moral high ground

OP posts:
JamieAgain · 28/06/2011 19:12

I think that in cases where you really want to say fuck off, that's giving the poster exactly what they want, so I try not to do it.

OracleInaCoracle · 28/06/2011 19:13

Once again, I blame people using AIBU as a chgat forum. It gives them an excuse to behave vilely and be rude for no good reason, and then say "well, it is in AIBU"

Am quite angry about AIBU misuse at the mo

PlentyOfPrimroses · 28/06/2011 19:13

To my mind, calling someone a fucker is a personal attack. Telling someone to fuck off is a suggestion Wink
