Swearing on mumsnet

Why is it okay for some cunt mumsnetter to be as patrionising and horrid as they like to someone and the minute they are told to 'fuck off' all hell breaks loose with the Hmm 's and Shock 's and "wow you're a nasty piece of work/real charmer Hmm " and "don't worry, I've just reported her " ... It really pisses me off!

I think telling someone to fuck off because you don't like what they are saying is one thing telling someone to fuck off who blatently on here to stir the shit then that fuck off is justified. It's like the thread last week where someone called a novelist a cunt, her post stayed but everyone who called the OP a cunt got their posts deleted.

Is a troll someone who just wants to have a row with someone so will try to start a bun fight even if they don't necasserily aggree with the things they're saying?

Rockerchic - that's what I'm saying though. I really think that those kind of posters love nothing better than being sworn at, and it encourages them. Much better to ignore or keep the moral high ground by arguing in a different way.

Thats a tough one Duck. Most cases the trolls are actually amusing but the stillbirth thread last week is one instance when the troll is here to cause some harm and spout utter bullshit to get their points across.
Some folks out there think it's amusing to do posts like that and think fuck all about the people that have actually had that problem.

The great thing about mn is that its self moderated, it is a forum for adults and (thank god) mnhq treats us as such. Calling a poster a cunt isn't a personal attack, calling them a fat, lazy cunt is. I panicked last week about (deservedly) calling a poster a cunt. That post wasn't but one which she made that led me to break my C-cherry was. Hq is usually v reasonable about it

I agree Jamie those threads I hide. They actually thrive on the abuse.

My very first post deletion was on a thread similar to this one [proud]

It was all full of sweary insults; I found it funny and posted a 'fuck off' reply. I never did understand why mine was deleted while the others weren't ...

... so fuck off, OP, you whining minger!

I don't mind cunt, I do mind when an OP gets away saying it and all the others get their posts deleted. That was a thread to remember, most deleted posts I've seen on here.

I do think sometimes people just jump on the 'flaming' bandwagon though, then someone says something uncalled for, gets sworn at and round and round it goes!
