Seriously? Bubs? seriously?

I can think of very few ways to describe a child that are less annoying than Bubs,AIBU?

OP posts:
JoySzasz · 20/06/2011 15:45

True cheerful here in Indiana everyone does it.

I was delighted when my DH started doing it Hmm

poutintrout · 20/06/2011 15:47

Bubba, Bubs, Bobs, Lollypop, Pupster, Little Legs (& Big Les for the older one) - Guilty of calling my dogs all of these. I'm not ashamed :)

M0naLisa · 20/06/2011 15:48

i hate the term Bubs too.

CheerfulYank · 20/06/2011 15:53

I call all unborn babies "babe". Is this highly offensive and I'm just unaware of it? Confused

BlooferLady · 20/06/2011 15:54

Hideous.

Why are stupid people so sentimental?

CheerfulYank · 20/06/2011 15:55

I'm not really sure how to reply to that...

Ormirian · 20/06/2011 15:57

Bubs? Short for buboes? Confused

LadyClariceCannockMonty · 20/06/2011 15:58

On a (slightly) related note, I loathe and despise 'baby' without the definite article in the context of 'Why not buy one of these [whatevers] for baby?'

Gaaaaaahhh!

Fimbo · 20/06/2011 15:59

Yucky and hubby is just awful.

QueenOfFeckingEverything · 20/06/2011 16:05

Oh yes it is dreadful. It makes me feel slightly shuddery.

Mind you I call DS 'Mr Baby' - only when actually talking to him though. When referring to him in conversation I use his name.

charliejosh · 20/06/2011 16:07

Hello, I am new so hope you dont mind me posting.....I HATE the word Hubby with a passion, but as for Bubs - I call my ds bubba chops sometimes....never bubs though!

BlooferLady · 20/06/2011 16:09

How dare you post, Charlie. Do you think this is a public forum or something?

BlooferLady · 20/06/2011 16:13

(there shoulda been a Grin after that!)

B4Beatrice · 20/06/2011 16:14

Things that make me want to pull my own teeth out-
Lol
Lil man
Lil ladee
Lil princess
Sexy lil (whatever)
Mummy's little angel/ princess/ man/ etc etc etc

However, much to my disgust, I have called DD "bubs". As in "come on bubs".

I am a total hypocrite arent I?

TBF though I would never refer to her as it to anybody (I would use her name). Likewise for FB, MN, etc.

My excuses are not working are they?

Deaddei · 20/06/2011 16:16

Dh once called me Chubs.
Only once.

minipie · 20/06/2011 16:19

CheerfulYank - "babe" is acceptable as it's a real word. Though obviously best if you are David Bowie in Labyrinth.

"Bubs" and "bubba" however are not real words and just make me think you can't say "baby" properly.

LadyClarice I agree - what's wrong with saying "the baby".

Shodan · 20/06/2011 16:20

On a not at all related note, I was recently taken aback to hear ds2 describe a sore toe as a 'boo-boo'. Intense questioning of my nearest and dearest failed to uncover the felon who taught him this.

Turns out it was bloody Dora the bloody Explorer. She has now dropped in my estimation, despite having taught ds2 quite a lot of Spanish.

And BlooferLady- leave the newbie alone or it's the Naughty Step for you, retrospective smiley notwithstanding.

charliejosh · 20/06/2011 16:21

Haha my mistake Blooferlady

RitaMorgan · 20/06/2011 16:24

Ooh, I call ds Bubs. And Bubba - and even worse, Bubba Bear Grin

Only do it at home/in private though Hmm

ChaosTrulyReigns · 20/06/2011 16:30

Oh anyone who adds moo as a suffix to a name to create a wanktastic nickname.

[grr]

Into the stocks with them.

TheReturnoftheSmartArse · 20/06/2011 16:31

My boss calls his wife Bubs. Weird. (Her name's Joanna.)

stickylittlefingers · 20/06/2011 16:45

I don't understand the moo thing, Chaos - would I be Stickylittlefingersmoo? (please understand I live a very sheltered life - and they're all bairns up here, so I don't have to worry about the bub thing either. Tho short for Beelzebub made me laugh!!)

ChaosTrulyReigns · 20/06/2011 16:48

milly-moo

becky-boo

simmy-soo

rumplestiltskin-roo

etc

ChaosTrulyReigns · 20/06/2011 16:48

Said in an ickle voice.

obv.

LadyWord · 20/06/2011 17:01

Bubs is bad. But doesn't irritate me quite as much as Toots which is very common round here. "Come on Toots!" ick.

Having said that I do call my DC sausage, sweet pea, babe and all kinds of silly made up nicknames. I probably make passers by cringe on a daily basis.
