Rinsing mince, yes really.

I think that the idea of cooking a packet of mince, rinsing it (using a colander) then putting it back in the pan is well, weird.

Fair enough skimming the crap that comes off it, but rinsing it takes away all the flavour of the meat.

This has been a long-standing argument between me and dp.

I appreciate your input Grin

Adding milk to mince at the last stage of cooking is rather good actually. I too was sceptical but I had read and article about how to cook a real spag bol and I tried it. Delicious.

Rinsing it IS just strange.

Grin @ the way this thread has gone.

Yeah, it is honestly not good to wash meat. First off, just why?? Since when has cold water by itself been any kind of an effective cleanser?

And second off - great way to splash microscopic nasties all over your hard kitchen surfaces, including wooden chopping boards - which you never cut meat on anyway since they harbour germs much more effectively than plastic, etc.

Seriously, I am not a clean freak - we all need a few germs to keep our immune system on the go - but I don't clean meat pre-cooking.

well in defence you 'clean' fruit and vegetables in cold water only. Slightly different though as they tend to have smooth skins so just need soething to remove dirt
