To wear a bikini for aqua natal class?

It's my first class tomorrow but as I'm 6 months gone my costume won't fit. I have a fairly substantial bikini which will do but.... is it the done thing to go to a public baths in a bikini when you are the size of a small whale?

I know I shouldn't care but I do. It may be like one of those anxiety dreams when you walk into work naked if everyone stares.

I also have a hairy belly ATM but this can be corrected with a quick bleaching session before I go.

If you want to wear it to aqua natal, wear it!

Xiaoxiong · 13/06/2011 14:28

YANBU. I think 6 months and onwards is the only time I would even consider actually wearing a bikini. No one will look at me and think "fat", they'll think "baby" - and it's aqua natal, so it will be obvious why you're there!

Xiaoxiong · 13/06/2011 14:28

look at you

SongBirdsKeepSinging · 13/06/2011 14:28

I go to aqua natal and wear a maternity swimsuit which is surprisingly comfy. I haven't seen anyone wear a bikini but don't see why you shouldn't if you feel comfortable.there is quite a lot of arms up and down and round in circles type movement plus bouncing so just make sure the top won't slip maybe?

The only thing I'd also say is my class is when the rest of the pool is empty, and yet there will be lifeguards and god knows who else watching us (all men) there are 3 girls in my class and one day there were 4 lifeguards watching.the instructor eventually told them to bog off.

bring a t-shirt and sling it on if you feel self-conscious

ShushBaby · 13/06/2011 14:29

YA absolutely NBU! I bet you look great!

I went to aquanatal in a bikini when I was five days overdue, the day after my bump suddenly broke out in stretchmarks. Nobody batted an eyelid. They were probably too scared.

vess · 13/06/2011 14:31

Of course you can, why are you even asking?

AppleyEverAfter · 13/06/2011 14:38

Thanks for the comments, I'll wear it and bring a tee, just in case I turn up and everyone looks like Myleene Klass. :-D

valiumredhead · 13/06/2011 14:47

Just take a Tee shirt as well if you don't feel comfortable

DrNortherner · 13/06/2011 14:52

Actually I am going to buck teh trend and say I am always a little Hmm at woen who wear bikinis to the local baths. Pregnant or not.

You can wear what you like but personally I'd be down to Motehrcare quicker tahn yuo can say hairy tummy and buy a maternity one piece.

DrNortherner · 13/06/2011 14:52

I am crap at typing Grin

Scheherezadea · 13/06/2011 15:46

I've got a lovely tankini - only need a class to go to as my local one is cancelled for 4 weeks!!

Insomnia11 · 13/06/2011 17:08

My bikinis didn't fit me when pregnant... but before kids I did use to wear a sporty bikini to the baths, not the beach kind but like a crop top & mini shorts. I would just wear what you are comfortable with. I still wear bikinis on holiday in spite if being heavier than I'd like to be and having (old) operation scars, I don't think I look that bad!

TheLemur · 13/06/2011 17:16

I wore one and I was massive. I loved the feeling of the water on my bare belly. Didn't get any weird looks but my mum was a bit shocked (she hid her bump away in the 70's)

AppleyEverAfter · 13/06/2011 19:02

Lemur my mum is always Shock that I wear a bikini on holiday around the pool. And she was thinner than I am when she was my age!

Just be careful you don't do like the MNer who was heavily pregnant and forgot to put on the bikini bottoms because she couldn't see. It was a classic thread - I think her DH went into shock and pointed and said something like "Oh your minge!"

mrsravelstein · 13/06/2011 19:13

i always wear a bikini for swimming, and did so when pregnant too.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 13/06/2011 19:14

Haha... so funny, MardyBra... please tell me it's in 'Classics' somewhere? I'll go and find it, I have the link from a kindly MNer.. Grin

MardyBra · 13/06/2011 19:16

I've just been trying to search for it - no joy and I have to go now. I'm sure some lovely person will come along and link. I remember laughing until the tears rolled down my face. I hope it wasn't in Chat and got lost.

smokinaces · 13/06/2011 19:16

Ha ha ha ha MardyBra, thats made my evening Grin

MainlyMaynie · 13/06/2011 19:45

Loads of people at my aqua natal class wear bikinis, I think it's nice to see people's bumps!

notasausage · 13/06/2011 19:49

There is one girl that comes to our class in a bikini. She's about 20 weeks so not huge yet but I think lost of us would like to have the guts to do the same. If you want to wear one go for it. My tankini is forever riding up in the water so I might as well go for a bikini!

teraspawn · 13/06/2011 19:53

I wouldn't bat an eyelid over a pregnant lady wearing a bikini at the pool! What else are you supposed to wear for heaven's sake.

Meglet · 13/06/2011 19:55

yanbu. But are you sure your boobs will fit in it?

I bought a Primark tankini for the last few weeks of my pregnancy, just went up a few sizes and it was fine - tops and bottom were separates so just got different sizes.
