First words : Sexy

This isnt a major thing but I wanted some feedback because I think I might be being a bit OTT on this one.

Nephew has just started to talk. He can say maybe three or four words. DP's family have taught him to shout "sexy!" at the prompt of a wolf whistle.

Im just a bit Confused about it really, it feels abit weird. And I dont want them to do the same with my DS so obviously these feelings are going to come out when hes at an age where hes talking! I know its a really minor thing! Blush just want to do a straw pole!

Urgh. I mean, vaguely funny in the way that teaching babies trick can be quite amusing, but

YABU, I'd probably do something really passive aggressive like grimace and say 'ew' next time they do it.

ShushBaby · 08/06/2011 17:55

YANBU. Am idiot.

Insomnia11 · 08/06/2011 17:55

It does sound a bit off. Teaching him to treat women as sex objects from the word go, brilliant. Hmm Some people have an odd sense of homour.

BooyHoo · 08/06/2011 17:57

YANBU it's about as funny as teaching kids to swear. i.e; not in the slightest.

just EUGH!!

donteatthat · 08/06/2011 17:57

I don't think you're being OTT, I can see why it might be funny but is totally inappropriate... hope they're suitably embarrassed when he shouts it out in a completely inappropriate environment!

LineRunner · 08/06/2011 17:57

It's exploitative and creepy. He's not a fucking budgie.

Icelollycraving · 08/06/2011 17:58

Yanbu,grimness!

alittlebitshy · 08/06/2011 18:01

ugh. I really hate the use of sexy by and in relation ti children. I was waiting for a lift at Stratford last week and watched a pair of woman walk along with a little girl - about 4 y o maybe - alternately play-smacking her bottom chanting "sexy bum". I shuddered rather a lot.

you are def nba!

gapants · 08/06/2011 18:02

what insomnia said, totally inappropriate and wrong.

My dad used to wolf whistle at my DS when he was a baby and thought it was funny. I told him it was not funny and he was embarrassing me and i did not want my DS to think wolf whistles were OK.

LouMacca · 08/06/2011 18:04

YANBU. Not funny in the slightest and not a minor thing if you're worried that they will try to do the same with your DS

knittynoodle · 08/06/2011 18:05

I just dont think sexy is a word I want my DS saying at 1yo. Will try and judge what DP thinks later in a vague non accusational way.

Funny this came up the same week as the sexualisation of children debate. Think I'll use that as my way in!

saffy85 · 08/06/2011 18:07

YANBU they're gonna learn the word at some point so why force it on them? What's the hurry?

JamieAgain · 08/06/2011 18:13

Grim. He's not a performing animal. And really inappropriate too. They sound charming

Moodykat · 08/06/2011 18:13

Ugh, thats just wrong! Mind you, I had to have a work with DH gran, SIL and indeed MIL about calling my DS a faggot. Apparently in the olden days it was a term of affection. I was, and still am, gobsmacked that people think things like this are ok! Its alright in the family where that word is never used in a negative context but in the wider world its all kinds of wrong!
So no, YANBU!

Moodykat · 08/06/2011 18:13

Had to have a word I mean.

elmofan · 08/06/2011 18:24

YANBU at all .

Bigglewinkle · 08/06/2011 18:31

What's wrong with 'tractor' or daddy being first words? Yanbu, I wouldn't want to tell my ds when he's older that one of his first words was sexy - I think he'd be embarrassed as well as me.

youarekidding · 08/06/2011 18:37

Think I'd rather DS said pig to me oinking if I felt the need to teach him new words/tricks.

My DS first word was 'luz' (light in spanish). That was a wierd one but at least he learnt it and wasn't taught it. Grin

valiumredhead · 08/06/2011 18:41

Oh come one, it is a tiny bit funny Grin

sims2fan · 08/06/2011 18:49

Yuck, I hate it when people teach their kids inappropriate words thinking it would be funny. I know someone who taught their child to say 'shit' as a first word, and I once went for a walk with them and pointed out an anchor that was outside a pub. Toddler shouted 'Anchor!' as we went past on the way back and I was chuffed he remembered. Then his mum said, 'No DS, W-anchor, say wanker!' she though it was hysterically funny. Don't think she finds it quite as funny now he's 4 and gets into trouble at nursery school for swearing, which I did warn her would happen.

superjobeespecs · 08/06/2011 18:50

na thats not right that i'd hate that!! my nephews dad always says to him mon gi daddy a neckie it makes me sick and i still say it to him to this day that its just wrong on so many levels not only is it vulgar language but the action isnt much better, ppl are so obsessed with teaching kids things too early these days :)

DirtyMartini · 08/06/2011 18:52

yuck yuck yuck and depressing! They sound like a barrel of laughs Hmm YANBU

DirtyMartini · 08/06/2011 18:53

What's a neckie?

mollymole · 08/06/2011 18:53

it is awful and NO it is not 'a tiny bit funny'

fuzzpigFriday · 08/06/2011 18:54
