To dress siblings in the same?

so I bought dd's matchng tshirts nothing solgan like just the same pattern tshirt. Got home to dh who thinks this is awful and shouldn't have dc (aged 3 and 7 months) dressing the same. So I thought I'd ask mn and see what is the general opinion on this ?!?!very important!?!? Matter!! :o

It is cheesy, but I sometimes have my boys in the same tops etc - DS1 loves it, and well, you're not hurting anyone are you?

Sorry, I agree with your dh - I think it loks awful! I'm sure you'll have plenty of people who think it looks ok though - all just a matter of personal taste.

my girls are 3 years apart, i never dressed the vaguely the same
i cannot get my head around why people do (even twins)
my friend did it with her 2 daughters and it just looked weird (she did their hair the same, same bobbles in etc)
my 2 girls are poles apart though, one a girly girl and one a tomboy and always have been

My mother has often bought my boys the same clothes. On the odd occasion they have ended up wearing the same T-shirt. Every day it's twee - the odd time I don't think you are being unreasonable.

I have twins and never dress them the same.

I think it always looks a bit odd - but each to their own.

But ...... it always strikes me as a cultural thing. We see it loads in France in Italy (even down to the shoes on one occasion!).

'awful' a bit harsh for how children are dressed, no? I think mini leather jackets aren't great, but if that's what you like...

I used to love wearing the same as my older sister. She was not not thrilled when she got a bit older.

Anyhoo it's useful if one child goes walkabout . You just need to say " Has anyone seen my DD she is dressed the same as this DD ?"

I used to put really really bright ribbons in my DDs' hair so I could spot them from afar particularly in the local swimming pool.

I like it just not ALL the time.

I think matching t-shirts sounds quite cute. A whole outfit can be a bit cringey tho. You aren't someone who makes a habit of it so I think you're safe :)

It's so hard to find anything nice, why not buy two?
I wouldn't go the whole hog and match every item though - shorts, socks, fleece etc.- that is cheesy.

When DD'S where little they had a couple of dresses that where the same and others that where same dress but different colour we stopped when DD1 was 7.DD2 and DS also had joggers for travelling in the same except hers was pink and his blue.

When my two ds were younger I often dressed them the same - it made it easier to find them with a quick glance in the park etc, although I must confess I never bought the matching outfits my mil did.

Once they got a bit older and started to choose their own clothes they tend not to pick the same stuff, although they do occasionally (my mil still buys them matching stuff!)

I know it's twee and a bit cheesy but occasionally I enjoy indulging in the twee and cheesy.

Occasionally is fine. To have it as a rule is not.

Not really a major issue IMO. Quite sweet for a special occasion but a bit naff unnecessary for every day, I suppose. There are other things I would judge a lot more on though! Grin

trumpton - but I heard opposite safety advice which is what I follow:

Never put them in the same outdoor clothes:

  1. You will never get confused and shout out the wrong name when wanting to warn them / stop them running into the round
  1. If you dress them both the same - its easier to loose a kid because you have seen the red jumper twice - and so still think you have got two kids IYSYIM !!

I have a friend who dresses her boys the same, they are 2, 4. I do not like how it looks, agree with the other poster who said it looks "twee" but again, it is hardly the end of the world.

I do think some others in RL would look at kids dressed the same and think it either "cute" or "naff".

As an ex identical dresser, I wil say, don't do it! I am the older sister, and people were always mistaking us for twins and I hated it. If we weren't matching, we were similar style. On the odd occasion it might be acceptable I suppose, but at least ask your older son if he wants to wear the same shirt before putting him in it, that way you can respect his feelings about it.

I have just 1DS so no experience of this first hand, but I do have 2DNeices ages 5&8 and their mum dresses them the same or similar as it causes almighty tantrums if one gets something the other doesn't!!

I think it's ok for special occasions, and I often dress my boys in same thing different colour combos.

At a wedding when they were 3m and 3y they were dressed the same and everyone thought it was adorable Hmm

I've always dressed my identical twins differently. Mainly as I wanted them to be treated as individuals.

My friend always dresses her 3 boys (various ages) the same. I think it looks cute but it must grate on the oldest boy.

When they were little I used to dress the girls alike for smart days out and weddings ect. They always had matching best coats and boots for Winter. The lads and DH were always suited and booted they still are when they aren't working. My lasses looked the picture of Yorkshire girlhood and I loved it.

Then REBELLION all three of them have gone 'bad' on me they dress like you know who so do all the other lasses round here, but couldn't mine set a example to the others not to? Obviously not!

When my boys were little and both liked the same thing, then I would buy two t shirts the same. Sometimes they'd both wear them on the same day, other times not. I think it's okay if it is just a t shirt or a jacket, not if they are head to toe in the same clothes. I also think that once children are of an age to have their own opinion on clothes, then you should listen to them wrt wearing the same clothes.

As adults, my sisters and i often turn up to family occasions in similar outfits, which may be a throwback to my mum making us matching dresses when we were small.
