lyingwitch when you do have a £1 on you, go to one of the charity shops and buy one of their tokens for the trolley. i have one that hooks onto my keys. i never need search for a coin again when going shopping.

We know we are skint when we eat at IHOP... I know that sounds crazy, but we have a family friend who sends International House of Pancakes vouchers to us several times a year, and we always save them for when there is nothing to eat in the house, partly because we are so entirely sick of their food after years of these vouchers, and partly because the kids think they are getting a treat when we go. What hurts is trying to scrape together the tip...

Cashing in small bits of foreign currency from previous less cash restricted times is a winner...I got a well needed £20 from that :)

When I was a very broke student I would put pasta in soup. I still like it now as a meal. Very filling.
