Is a first McDonalds something to be 'proud' of?

Ok, disclaimer: I have nothing against McDonalds, I have them occasionally and 2yr old DD has had one during a long journey.

A friend recently posted on FB that her DD (10m) had her first Happy Meal, and she was 'so proud', she 'even drank the Coke and everything'.

As said, I have NOTHING against McD's, but is it really something pride-worthy?

Deploy Biscuit as appropriate, I'm feeling uncharacteristically devil-may-care

Did you ask her?

thisisyesterday · 19/05/2011 19:49

maybe she was saying it tongue in cheek?

jobrien1980 · 19/05/2011 19:50

Its a bit weird, unless she's one of those mothers who feels the end to record every fecking second of the poor child's life on social networking sites.

I do like a nice cheese burger myself though...

lachlanbella · 19/05/2011 19:50

Nothing to be proud of or boast about. I have much against McD's - they are a horrible company - don't get me started. DH buys the kids a happy meal occasionally but it's not something I would boast about - especially a 10 month old drinking Coke!

jobrien1980 · 19/05/2011 19:51

Or 'need' even...doh!

jobrien1980 · 19/05/2011 19:52

To be fair my DH is from Wigan and will probably want to record the DC's first pie for posterity :-P

nethunsreject · 19/05/2011 19:52

That is asking for judgey pants, especially the coke.
Fair enough a few chips but a Happy Meal and a coke?

PumpkinBones · 19/05/2011 19:53

YABU for asking, as I think you've made you're mind up Grin and no-one is going to say "Yes, the first McDonalds is a rite of passage, I was so proud of DC when they had theirs" The question is really "AIBU to judge my friend for feeding their 10 month old a Happy Meal?"

And, I'm not 100% convinced the coke thing is true. Most babies that age would find it hard to drink it because of the fizzies. Not that I would know this. Not that my NSC took a massive mouthful of my coke at much the same age and sneezed for about 10 mins Grin

Parietal · 19/05/2011 19:53

Only if it is also the last mcdonalds.

BertieBasset · 19/05/2011 19:53

I have more of an issue with the coke that the McD's. But no - I would not brag about anything like that.

NettoSuperstar · 19/05/2011 19:56

Oh ffs get over it.

DD by 10 months had probably had maccas, and avocado, and smoked salmon (Oooh, the salt content), and when she was a year, I took her travelling and she ate what was offered.
Look up Es Cendol.
She loved it when she wasn't stuffing down tahu isi, soto ayam, nasi goreng, and KFC.

LifeIsButtercream · 19/05/2011 19:57

I'm not trying to be judgy, just cos someone does something that I wouldn't do doesn't make them a bad parent/in need of 'judging'!

I'm just nose-poking for opinions, because until I ask for opinions the only one I have is mine, and thats not balanced

usualsuspect · 19/05/2011 19:57

who fucking cares

AuraofDora · 19/05/2011 19:58

yes Parietal, if it's the first and last, that is worth celebrating
sad really and yanbu

bupcakesandcunting · 19/05/2011 19:59

I fucking care. I fucking care LOADS.

nethunsreject · 19/05/2011 19:59

Oh, I'd judge.

pigletmania · 19/05/2011 19:59

Was she from the Vicky Pollard graduation school per chance Biscuit

thelittlefriend · 19/05/2011 20:37

NettoSuperstar your list is very impressive, but what's advocado doing on it???

wigglesrock · 19/05/2011 20:40

I think she may have been taking the piss and waiting to see if anyone was going to say anything to her and then tell people to catch themselves on.

GooGooMuck · 19/05/2011 20:40

Grin @ pumpkin's coke snorting baby.

never thought I'd say that :)

I don't think this is real though. NO one would do that. They wouldn't.

thisisyesterday · 19/05/2011 20:41

she's probably trying to "out" fellow mumsnetters.

and it's worked Wink

mrsseed · 21/05/2011 03:51

I was proud when my DD had her first macdonalds, but only in the sense of wow we made it to age 5 before she had macdonalds. Certainly didn't brag about it-although I guess that's what I'm doing here and now?

Mishy1234 · 21/05/2011 06:03

It's not somewhere I would take my 10 month old to eat and as for the coke...

Up to her though I suppose.

GoFullForce · 21/05/2011 06:43

I dont get this,

I remember when my children had their first bit of food, chocolate, juice etc.. McD is just another first (well ds2 will never have one) but its not something to boast about, just a "first". The coke is another thread, away from the original OP.
