Is a first McDonalds something to be 'proud' of?

Ok, disclaimer: I have nothing against McDonalds, I have them occasionally and 2yr old DD has had one during a long journey.

A friend recently posted on FB that her DD (10m) had her first Happy Meal, and she was 'so proud', she 'even drank the Coke and everything'.

As said, I have NOTHING against McD's, but is it really something pride-worthy?

Deploy Biscuit as appropriate, I'm feeling uncharacteristically devil-may-care

Not the MD's as such but coke for a 10MO. My DD is 4 and she's never had coke yet.

QuackQuackSqueak · 21/05/2011 09:27

Fries - not too bad, carrot sticks - great, chicken nuggets - not too bad (have heard they are much better these days, coke (almost wrote cock!) for a 10mo - bloody shocking. I think you should post in response to her comment (assuming she is serious and it's not a joke) that "oh that's lovely! Your dc will have no teeth leaft by the time they are 3! You must be so proud!"

ilovedora27 · 21/05/2011 09:38

I have all the mcdonalds toys from my childhood and I can remember nearly every occasion when I got each one and playing with them. My daughter plays with them all now. I think I was indoctrinated in to being a lifelong mcdonalds fan. Grin

I wouldnt give a 10 month old coke and I am trying to get my daughter to go as long as possible without one. However I do remember her first mcdonalds but I wouldnt record the moment. Mcdonalds is better nowadays and I have a daughter that requests fruit bags and carrot sticks and refuses mcdonalds chips! That would never have happened in my childhood!

LoveBeingAbleToNamechange · 21/05/2011 09:52

What a waste of a happy meal and coke, there is no way a 10mth old would have eaten or drank much of it.

VinegarTits · 21/05/2011 09:56

of course she should be proud!

forcing down the shite that MacDonalds serves is no mean feat

HubbaHubbaBubba · 21/05/2011 09:58

Is it just me, or is anyone else hankering after a Big Mac now? :o Hmm :o

LoveBeingAbleToNamechange · 21/05/2011 10:25

Hubba I have the same problem if I watch supersize me Grin

Yukana · 21/05/2011 11:18

McDonalds is shit. Give her a Biscuit from me. :)

JingleMum · 21/05/2011 15:06

i was proud after giving my DD her first mcdonalds Blush

last month (a few days after DD turned 18 months old) i was shattered after work, picked DD up from nursery and she started falling asleep in the car. i decided rather than get her home and start cooking that i'd get her a mcdonalds as it was quicker and easier as she and i were both so tired.

she had the fishfingers, fries (no salt), organic milk and a bbq sauce. she enjoyed it and i was very proud as she seemed so grown up eating it, it's like she knew it was a treat and she was really excited with the toy. i'm going to let her have one a week now that she's 19 months old as she has a great diet the other 6 days per week. nothing wrong with it as a treat IMO.

10 months old is too young for me, and coke is a no no for as long as possible.

Cocoflower · 21/05/2011 15:11

Its no big deal either way. Just dont get why anyone would feel proud though.

Its a non-event really.

Sirzy · 21/05/2011 15:14

I don't see the fuss personally. Not what I would do but I hate mcdonalds.

ChippingIn · 21/05/2011 15:16

LoveBeingAble - didn't you do BLW?

All the 10 month olds I know would easily eat a Happy Meal if given the chance. Not that any of them have but they all eat sandwiches, potato wedges, fish fingers/chicken nuggets (usually home made by their Mums) and easily eat the same quantity as a HM (but not the coke).

icooksocks · 21/05/2011 15:19

My ds2 had his first mcdonalds at about 10 months old...I didnt feel the need to anounce it on FB for a start....and he sure as hell as like didnt have coke, they also have water and orange juice (I choose orange juice then drink it for myself whilst he has water out of his cup that we bought out with us Blush.

So my judgy pants are hoiked up on the coke side of things. As for the happy meal at 10 months-well I cant talk [shrugs]

I can't believe this thread has had so many replies!

Teenytiny · 21/05/2011 15:28

Well no but i wouldnt get hot and bothered about it unless she was feeding my 10month old it!!

Laquitar · 21/05/2011 15:33

Do you really believe that a 10 months old will drink coke?
Well, if he did then yes i am impressed Grin

DaisyLovesMetronidazole · 21/05/2011 15:35

To be fair, unless we have met all the ten month olds ever, we can't predict whether or not one might drink coke.

JoniRules · 21/05/2011 16:10

Was it a joke? If not YUK!

mouseanon · 21/05/2011 16:16

Are you sure she wasn't being ironic, about being proud?

Pictish · 21/05/2011 16:18

What Usual Suspect said. Jeeeezzz....

york00 · 21/05/2011 16:28

I wouldn't want to admit taking a 10 month old oto Mcdonalds and giving them a Coke. Having said that both dc's now have a Mcdonalds may 4 times a year.

ManicAnnie · 21/05/2011 16:33

I could murder a MaccDees now, especially the coke.

Yes she should be very proud! You should post saying that it is a shame she didn't have the foresight to hire a professional photographer to capture this very special moment.

Maybe to honour this special occasion you could send her a congratulations card...with a gift voucher for McDonald's inside it of course.
