Its rather funny. Innocense full of innuendo . Wogan is not everyones cup of tea but this works

But it's not Wogan himself that writes it is it? It's the listeners - no?

Jaspants · 19/05/2011 16:11

But YANBU it is amusing

AuntieMonica · 19/05/2011 16:12

'see John wearing his salmon pink satin sailor suit and matching trainers, skipping along to the village fete where Miss Brown the school teacher is has offered to give him one behind the fortune tellers tent' (personal reading that is)

'see Janet sharpen her knife and growl at Miss Brown, she's never forgiven her for the telephone box episode.'

never heard it before Wink

ElectricSoftParade · 19/05/2011 16:13

I haven't heard it but have a book I found in the charity shop which I thought looked funny. Might read it now Smile

Someone will be along to post that picture in a minute won't they? Grin

ScousyFogarty · 19/05/2011 16:25

my local radio station is playing them regularly (so you can tell it is pretty tame) But the joke seems to work for most people.

I used to get my writings on Wogan when he was on radio 2 early morning.

I like some of his stuff, not all. he is a blarney merchant but not a bullshitter; when he rarely says something seriously, it makes sense.

Like "When I got to the top I was determined that no one else had a chance" And show biz is like that whatever the pretense. Its a me, me, me game.

"Amanda needed a few drinks because she'd never been taken up the Oxo Tower before and was a bit nervous. Afterwards she said that she would suggest it to her boyfriend."

I loved the way Janet got more and more outlandish until she was going to things like 'her cage fighting classes'.

WhatsWrongWithYou · 19/05/2011 16:50

Hasn't this been going for years?

Bluemoonrising · 19/05/2011 16:52

I can't stand it. it is just peurile tripe.

One of the reasons why Chris Evans in the morning is heaven sent. And they all got SO stupid listening to it, like it was the funniest thing in the world.

It isn't. It's shit.

SoloIsAHotCougar · 19/05/2011 16:55

I think it only started on radio 2 at any rate when Wogan went to Sundays after giving up on the breakfast show. I like it, it's clever and silly.

5Foot5 · 19/05/2011 16:56

YANBU I used to love this when Wogan was on in the morning. But I am confused - when and where are you listening to it now?

Malgosia · 19/05/2011 16:57

Janet and John were a staple feature of Wogan's morning show whenever it was John's turn to read the news.

Bluemoonrising · 19/05/2011 16:57

Nope, it was on breakfast too. My work radio is permanently tuned to radio 2. It was SUCH a relief when Terry handed over to someone better.

It's not clever. It's inane.

ScousyFogarty · 19/05/2011 16:57

Wogan will still be on Radio after hes popped his clogs. Jimmy Young went on to a tremendous age, and kicked up hell when they retired him Its in their DNA

OP posts:
SoloIsAHotCougar · 19/05/2011 16:58

Did he do it on the morning show then? I didn't get into radio 2 until just before he retired from it.

ExitPursuedByAKitten · 19/05/2011 16:59

We thought it was funny in our house. We are easily pleased Grin

SoloIsAHotCougar · 19/05/2011 16:59

Each to their own I suppose...Wogan shook your shoulder gently to wake you up and Chris Evans laughs loudly in your ear Hmm

Bluemoonrising · 19/05/2011 17:01

Solo, you obviously didn't hear Janet and John then. So much ridiculous laughter and giggling like idiots. Which I could forgive if it was actually funny.

I've never heard Chris Evans do that in the morning.

ScousyFogarty · 19/05/2011 17:01

It is true some people are easily pleased. Others dont get it. My other house screamed the place down at Mrs Browns Children I thought the neighbours might go for an injunction

twolittlemonkeys · 19/05/2011 17:02

I agree with Bluemoonrising. I tend to have Radio 2 on in the car but got sick of Terry Wogan's in-jokes and Janet and John etc. Chris Evans much much better, even if he is unfeasibly chirpy for first thing in the morning.

ScousyFogarty · 19/05/2011 17:02

"My other house.." that must mean HALF,.....

OP posts:
SoloIsAHotCougar · 19/05/2011 17:52

See, I hated Chris Evans as he was very crude and rude and he kept following me to whichever station I changed to to avoid him! My friend persuaded me that he had in fact, grown up and I really enjoy his morning show now.

I like TW, but I'd not really had chance to get into him and his radio humour before CE took over.

ScousyFogarty · 19/05/2011 18:12

Yes, solo, I suppose chris evans is a reformed character. Its suprising in a way when you think how he used to behave
