To think that Hugh Laurie is an awful singer?

He's on Graham Norton now, putting on a weird American deep south drawl and singing what I think is known as 'The Blues'. Just stop it, Hugh. I'm embarassed.

He's Dr House. He's made it big in America. He can do whatever he wants now. Next he'll be running for governor of California - it can be done.

AitchTwoOh · 06/05/2011 23:27

he got great reviews at the jazz fest

bupcakesandcunting · 06/05/2011 23:28

You aren't wrong. DH and I have just been cringeing at him. This is his midlife crisis.

mousymouse · 06/05/2011 23:28

t*was ok. nothing special but ok.

ChickensHaveNoEyebrows · 06/05/2011 23:28

But it's painful. I was put in mind of my Dad taking to the stage at a wedding while half cut and belting out Pink Floyd numbers. Without musical back up. My mother hid in the toilets until it was over.

Is it jazz? I'm not great with my genres. I just have two really. Good and not good.

Bluebell99 · 06/05/2011 23:30

Nope it wasn't good.

shakey1500 · 06/05/2011 23:31

Yikes! Floyd. A Cappella. Just WRONG! I feel your cringe Chickens :(

ChickensHaveNoEyebrows · 06/05/2011 23:33

Why is he putting on that weirdy accent? It's just wrong and awkward sounding. Oi! Hugh! Nooooooooooo!

OP posts:
mousymouse · 06/05/2011 23:33

not jazz, blues

Bookswapper · 06/05/2011 23:34

was there a line about burying his woman alive....creepy

izzywhizzyletsgetbusy · 06/05/2011 23:36

Bertie Wooster sings the blues?

I've heard everything now but fortunately I missed that.

bupcakesandcunting · 06/05/2011 23:36

The blues, as the name would suggest, is a musical genre borne of misery and frustration. Come on, Hugh. How miserable can you be with millions in the bank?

ChickensHaveNoEyebrows · 06/05/2011 23:37

If he was auditioning for XFactor, Simon Cowell would have called him a pub singer. Definitely.

chicken I just thought I'd pop on whilst watching "Later with Jools Holland" and add this.

Hugh Laurie may not be a great singer, but at least he isn't a great big fucking knob-cheese like R Kelly (just finished being a twat performing)

Nobody's made me want to climb through my TV and punch them this badly since the last time I flicked past 0.73 seconds of the Jeremy Kyle show.

Salmotrutta · 06/05/2011 23:58

I love Hugh Laurie - I don't know s**t about music and I don't care if he's good or not at the Blues. I just love him.

TeamLemon · 07/05/2011 00:01

I was at the filming of The Graham norton Show, and tonight's show didn't reflect well on Hugh.
Watching it live, the balance of the song was much better. I don't think the TV production showed it in the best light.

megapixels · 07/05/2011 00:03

Yes! YANBU. I was wondering what the others were thinking.

FellatioNelson · 07/05/2011 00:04

I'm not at all sure about this either. I think there should be some sort of law against allowing people to hog too many genres. He was a comedian/character actor, and a bit of a national treasure ands that was fine. Then he got very famous doing serious acting in the Americaland. That should be enough for him. He's just getting greedy now.

If he wasn't Hugh Laurie no-one would be taking any notice of this album.

HazeltheMcWitch · 07/05/2011 00:05

NoWayNoHow - not a fan of R Kelly then? But have you ever experienced the amazing, magnum opus that is:

TRAPPED IN THE CLOSET

If you have a spare minute or 278687, read through the 'plot', marvel at the characters, fear for his sanity
And if you a glutton for punishment, look it up on you tube!

BecauseImWorthIt · 07/05/2011 00:05

He's also written a novel, btw!

HazeltheMcWitch · 07/05/2011 00:06

Oops, missed this " 're". If YOU"RE...

suzikettles · 07/05/2011 00:06

He wrote a really good thriller back in the 80s/early 90s. Hugh Laurie is Renaissance Man.

But no, I didn't think the singing was very good unfortunately. I kept thinking of A Bit of Fry & Laurie which probably didn't help.

BecauseImWorthIt · 07/05/2011 00:06

Look

suzikettles · 07/05/2011 00:07

Oh, it was 1996 so a bit later than I though. Anyway, it's a good book.
