To think that Hugh Laurie is an awful singer?

He's on Graham Norton now, putting on a weird American deep south drawl and singing what I think is known as 'The Blues'. Just stop it, Hugh. I'm embarassed.

Ooooh I love him! I am in the minority as I enjoyed his singing and think he is very talented at whatever he does.

Then again, I would think he was a genius if the ran around naked with a kipper on his head.

ChateauRouge · 07/05/2011 00:17

OH! Hazelmcwitch!!!!!
Someone else knows the genius of rkelly?

Itwas rosy the nosy neighbour......

With a spatula in her hand!

HazeltheMcWitch · 07/05/2011 00:42

"Now pause the movie cause what I'm about to say to y'all is so damn twisted, not only is there a man in his cabinet, but the man is a midget! MIDGET! MIDGET! MIDGET!"

JazzAnnNonMouse · 07/05/2011 00:58

YANBU
DP said that it was like a polished version of seasick Steve which I take to = shit.
It has quite ruined hugh laurie for me, I think they should go and practice some more. Preferably on Pluto.

Don't even get me started on Later... tonight, the only good thing was Adele.
Ok so it consisted of: R Kelly having a hand and vocal stutter continuously and thinking he was clever and talented for it. He had a costume change and everything (his wardrobe definitely needs re-assessing before they allow him out again), some strange band with light up moon nipple hearts which had some wankery songs and another band where the lead singer played the tambourine like it was the most meaningful and orgasmic instrument in the world - he also hat two microphones..., there was finally a band that consisted of a drum machine and three chords on the piano, undecipherable moaning with the odd voice jolt
and often silence with people nodding meaningfully to a non existent beat.

Rant over Grin

FurKnickersAndNoCoat · 07/05/2011 01:01

he was pretty poor but i'd still smash his back doors in Shock

NoWayNoHow · 07/05/2011 07:31

JazzAnn I couldn't have put it better myself! Normally on Later you get so see some really quite talented acts that make you wonder how on earth they aren't already ma-HOO-sive, but tonight was weird.

I was especially freaked out by R Kelly being possessed by channeling Ray Charles. Why? WHY????

Punkatheart · 07/05/2011 09:12

I have just watched R Kelly's masterpiece and I am crying with laughter. 'What's that smell - has someone broken wind?' Or a gangster with a stutter who can't say 'motherf...f....f....f'

I can now forgive Hugh Lawrie anything and actually, it seems to be a lovely man doing what he always wanted to do. Blues is by its nature pretty off-key and avant garde. He has also explained about the American accent - it simply would sound ridiculous in Oxbridge English. 'I woke up this morning chaps and my wife, who had previouly been down to Waitrose, was deceased...' does not work as well as: 'Woke up this morning my woman was DEAD.'

We live in an age of X-factor screechers and you think Hugh Laurie's singing is bad?? Confused

Rule No. 1.... Hugh Laurie can do NO wrong.
Rule No. 2.... Fast learn Rule No. 1. Grin

EmmaBemma · 07/05/2011 10:22

Hugh Laurie is a proper musician as well as an actor. I didn't see his singing last night but he plays the piano beautifully and he's got a good voice usually so I don't see how he can have been all that bad.

I have to declare an interest, I totally love him as House. I'd previously been immune to his charms but my husband and I worked our way through every series box set during my pregnancy last year and I ended up with an embarassingly hormonal thumping great crush on him.

JazzAnnNonMouse · 07/05/2011 10:42

He does play piano really well and normally sings well too I agree - last night was a let down.

Perhaps its just the genre that pisses me off though Grin

I like him with stubble mmm

ChickensHaveNoEyebrows · 07/05/2011 11:21

See, the Hugh love passes me by. I don't like 'House'. It's just the same episode repeated endlessly with different patients. Although I have watched it because I love Billy Kennedy (who must be a man witch, because he looks the same as he did in 'Neighbours' about 15 years ago).

I thought he was pretty good. I liked it.
I did keep seeing Bertie Wooster though.

AlistairSim · 07/05/2011 11:54

He does have very talented fingers.

LouMacca · 07/05/2011 12:11

YANBU. He was absolutely AWFUL. I had to turn the sound off while he was on. Adele (think it was last weeks show?) on the other hand was absolutely amazing, sheer class.

Stick to the acting Hugh, you're good at that Smile

Mandy2003 · 07/05/2011 12:27

Did he sing ??

Did he? Did he? Grin]

Glitterknickaz · 07/05/2011 12:28

I didn't fancy him before House.
I did in House.
Didn't last night, I definitely think he looks better dishevelled. Grin

As for last night's performance it was true to it's genre and an excellent performance of the blues. That musical style however just ain't my Brew

valiumredhead · 07/05/2011 12:29

I saw an ad yesterday for his new album - I thought it was a joke!
