Just a gripe. I don't see how you can say something offensive and pretend you didn't say it by using the strikethrough function. AIBU?

OP posts:
AgentZigzag · 02/05/2011 22:19

It's usually used as a joke, I can't see why anyone would say it seriously.

If they're being a twat to you then they'd just come out and say it wouldn't they?

Are you talking about any thread in particular?

HalfPastWine · 02/05/2011 22:19

YANBU

MrsRhettButler · 02/05/2011 22:19

ooops, sorry, i actually meant to say that.

YABU Grin

squeakytoy · 02/05/2011 22:21

It is meant as a funny comment, not to hide insults, if used properly.

AgentZigzag · 02/05/2011 22:22

I reckon the strikeout is one of the best bits of MN and I wish I had it in RL sometimes.

Ditto AZZ

AgentZigzag · 02/05/2011 22:26

Did you really think posters were being shitty with you or with each other and everyone just pretended it didn't happen because it was crossed out?

That's funny Grin

BoysAreLikeDogs · 02/05/2011 22:27

I think of the strike out as a kind of stage whisper comedy adjunct

worraliberty · 02/05/2011 22:27

I really believe AgentZigzag looks like this ---- > Grin

oldraver · 02/05/2011 22:29

I asked for the strikethrough on another forum I used, as I love the comic value that others use it for of it

ChippingInLovesEasterEggs · 02/05/2011 22:29

Ditto AZZ - I keep trying to do it in emails!

Spot on stranded!!

...but it is also used to say something you shouldn't and/or to ease the blow of what you want to say....

Serenitysutton · 02/05/2011 22:29

Wahhhh! Don't you get it?

usualsuspect · 02/05/2011 22:30

People who don't like the strikeout are miserable sods a bit odd

atswimtwolengths · 02/05/2011 22:34

I love the strike out! It's like muttering. I love that, too.

EmmaBemma · 02/05/2011 22:34

I thought it was kind of funny the first time I saw someone do it, then it got old pretty quickly. It's often misused to little/no discernable comedic effect, and just comes over irritatingly coy.

usualsuspect · 02/05/2011 22:35

it makes me laugh

WincyEtNightie · 02/05/2011 22:35

I Some people sometimes even think in strikeouts these days. Saddos.

Wish you could do it on Facebook

AgentZigzag · 02/05/2011 22:35

hehe emma, you're so intellectual and edgy.

I wish I was like you.

WincyEtNightie · 02/05/2011 22:36

FreudianSlipOnACrown · 02/05/2011 22:36
