'I don't believe women who say they loathe the institution of marriage.
If you poke around a little it always turns out that they've never been asked'

What a fool.

I felt really insulted by her article in yesterdays Sunday Times.

I've been with DP for 25 years.

I hope she's a MNer and sees this.

What a sexist and nasty thing to say.

Women who don't want to get married are the ones who've never been asked.

Runningjustasfastasican · 25/04/2011 20:52

Out of interest has he ever asked you to marry him?

perfumedlife · 25/04/2011 20:52

Yes she sometimes takes my breath away with her opinions. Wonder if she is specifically referring to women who claim to really loathe marriage rather than just women who can take it or leave it, kind of indifferent?

GloriaSmut · 25/04/2011 20:53

It's a stupid thing to say. Quite who she was hoping to impress I don't know.

MrsSchadenfreude · 25/04/2011 20:54

But has your DP ever asked, Reeling? GrinGrinWink

reelingintheyears · 25/04/2011 20:56

He asked and i said no...

I explained my reasons and he accepted them.

We now have three DC (all grown up now).

I never wanted to be a Princess..(India Knight)

She's a bit of a Roger Irrelevant. All she talks about are her domestic inanities.

Her column is pretty pathetic really.

expatinscotland · 25/04/2011 20:58

Wait till 'noddyholder' and 'motherinferior' see this thread :o.

FWIW, yes, they were asked.

I have several friends in long-term relationships who also were asked as well, it's just not for them.

She's onto a real stinker with that article.

MavisEnderby · 25/04/2011 20:59

I think India Knight is quite well known to be a mumsnetter.

I think she is great (fellow SN mum!!)

Its only a newspaper article opinion.

I never married dp( though he did ask we just never got round to it before he died).Ho hum

breathing · 25/04/2011 20:59

I have never been asked

and yet

am married

Go figure

rosie1979 · 25/04/2011 21:00

I have been a huge fan but think she has gone a bit off lately.

She is slightly better than Caitlin Moran tho...her saturday times mag column is bloody awful now, I used to think she was funny.

otchayaniye · 25/04/2011 21:00

She married someone who turned out to be gay. Maybe she has a jaundiced view of marriage.

Or maybe, like many other features journalists, she just makes up stuff all in sentences like and gets paid per 1,000.

As a proper news journalist I have a jaundiced view of frilly 'journalists'

perfumedlife · 25/04/2011 21:01

Totally agree rosie, Caitlin Moran is just two thousand words of pointless drivel now.

bamboostalks · 25/04/2011 21:02

Well it's an opinion column, she gets paid for spouting them...the rest of us come on here.

Most of my girlfriends who live with their partners would have liked to/hope to get married so she is not completely talking out of her arse.

DollyTwat · 25/04/2011 21:03

They are both good examples of famous people who are desperately dull on twitter too.

reelingintheyears · 25/04/2011 21:04

Like i said..
I was really insulted by her comments.

I too was asked but said 'no'.

I didn't want to hurt DP,but could never have done the wedding thing.

It was the front of the Sunday Times News Review pages.

Fuck her...i usually like those pages.

rosie1979 · 25/04/2011 21:05

perfumedlife - yes! it was her wittering on about how Aslan from TLTWATW would be a good boyfriend - WTF!?

Otchayaniye - is he? I thought that was just Julie Birchill being a stirring bth?!

maypole1 · 25/04/2011 21:05

I totally agree its like when you have girlfriends who say thy hate valentines its usually a case they know they won't be getting anything so try and convince themselves they hate the thing

LaWeasel · 25/04/2011 21:09

I sometimes think that opinion journalists just forget that real people read their articles.

I think it's why MN is so great, any opinion you have about anything will immediately be refuted with twenty examples as to why you are making assumptions and being a bit daft.
