I have ranted about this topic before, seethread so when I went to Tesco this morning and saw a big advert for a ginger flavoured drink with the slogan 'Ginger, always the best man - never the bridegroom', I saw red.

Anyway, I started ranting as soon as I saw it and gathered quite a crowd all agreeing with me while I was trying to persuade teenage DD to take a photo of the offending advert (can't work my own camera phone [bublush] ). At this point, red-haired DD rolled her eyes and said 'Mum, you are sooooo embarrassing' and cleared off to look at the toiletries. [bugrin]

Now I know it is supposed to be funny, and I know it is a reference to Prince Harry but AIBU?

PS the tesco manager just looked at me as if I was a nutter and more or less said 'calm down dear'. [bugrin]

WHY IS SUPPOSED TO BE HARD TO GET ON????!!!!

Sorry for shouting but I just clicked on it and I'm here, I know there's no title but I don't understand why people are excited that they have got on it? Is there a bouncer, have I come in a back door....what?

stickylittlefingers · 24/04/2011 21:45

hello! - I was born very red ginger - my mother was shocked as neither of my DPs are red headed. Weirdly, only that little bit (now in my fringe) stayed red. Otherwise I am mouse, when there's no bottle to make me more interesting...

The damson vodka sounds good!

TethersEnd · 24/04/2011 21:45

Let's crash the S&B secret thread Grin

usualsuspect · 24/04/2011 21:45

If you clicked the title before you couldn't get on it

usualsuspect · 24/04/2011 21:47

There is no title{confused]

WickedWitchSouthWest · 24/04/2011 21:47

Oo ginger credentials, well I was auburn as a child does that count? It's currently purple Blush sorry about that...

BeakerTheMuppetMuppet · 24/04/2011 21:47

tethers

my kind of thinking

says beaker who has the style of a real muppet

theglove · 24/04/2011 21:48

Stickylittlefingers -
DS's hair was a great surprise to us as well, nobody could remember anyone from any generation. I wonder if his will change as he gets older too

TethersEnd · 24/04/2011 21:55

That's no hurdle, beaker- usual went renegade on S&B the other day and recommended the worst sandals in the world. They were greeted with admiration.

RustyBear · 24/04/2011 21:56
Dragon
RustyBear · 24/04/2011 21:57

The dragon's disappeared now!

FriggFRIGG · 24/04/2011 21:59

HA! im in [bugrin]

...now,to find out whats going on in secret MN....

DartsRus · 24/04/2011 22:00

Jellykat, thanks for the offer of damsons. Sadly I'm in the East Midlands or I'd take you up Grin Luckily I know where I can get loads of free sloe berries, big ones too.

(Which thread is the S&B thread, I must be dense tonight!)

BeakerTheMuppetMuppet · 24/04/2011 22:02

right, off to watch 'Essex' bed

have fun and stay ginger Wink

Jellykat · 24/04/2011 22:19

God i love Sloe Gin, only thing is the berries remind me of my DMs Gallstones which she keeps in a jar... Eeeeeeeeeew!

stickylittlefingers · 24/04/2011 22:27

theglove - I wish mine had stayed like that. I really love red hair, can't understand why there is this undercurrent of jokes. Unfortunately both my dds are blonde atm, probably to end up mouse to brown. Sigh.

Jellykat - that's gross! Why does she do that?

thumbbunny · 25/04/2011 08:00

Tethers - your DH's favourite drink is called a whisky mac - very powerful indeed!

Stones Green Ginger wine is the only stuff worth drinking - I have tried inferior other brands and they just don't cut the mustard.
Whoever asked if it's anything like ginger beer - no. Nothing like it. It's like strong wine (it is, 14%) with a strong ginger flavour and heat. And it should be sold in 50ml measures in pubs, but some of the ignorant ones treat it as a spirit (it isn't) and only sell it in 25ml measures.

I got in by adding this thread to my Watch list and then it's easy. I don't use Last 15 minutes, ever, so wouldn't have known how to do that.

Rusty - am also [busad] that the Dragon has gone! One day wasn't long enough... (especially as that daffodil hung around for ages!)

I wish DS had gingerish hair - he has a touch of ginger, but it's mostly dark blond and may go as dark as DH's eventually. In the sun you get a glimpse of the slight redness though. [busmile]
Mind you, DH would have been pissed off if DS had had red hair (Why? When he married me, with reddish hair, and his mum had auburn hair!). He was worried that if DS had red hair he would end up being called Red Dog at school. More likely to be called Ranga (short for orangutan) now though; although it's not generally such an issue in Australia as it is in the UK. Mind you,

Tee2072 · 25/04/2011 08:15

My son has gingerish hair, his dad had it when he was little. My husband now denies all knowledge of ever having ginger hair, but I've seen the pictures!

I love ginger hair, what is the problem with it?!?!?!

My DD has inherited my ginger hair, I hated it as a child (due to bullying) but now think it's amazing, it changes colour with the seasons and depending on the light levels so some days is really coppery and others is very ginger indeed!

Ok I'm really late - still not got the hang of this mumsnet thingy. Hope you're all suitably hung over from all the Wine i see was consumed yesterday :)

I am still hanging on to being ginger although going browner as I get older. If my MIL calls me strawberry blonde or my FIL says if our baby (due friday) is ginger he'll "send it back" one more time I might go mad! What's wrong with my genes!!

ledkr · 25/04/2011 09:41

i am guilty of gingerism, not bullying(or so i thought) but the usual "hillarious" jokes occasionally.
Ten weeks ago i had my gorgeous dd who is extremely red headed. It is soft and downy and very bright in the sunlight,i love it. If this is karma then bring it on.
Off to do pennance.

Pacific · 25/04/2011 13:14

Sorry I missed the party last night. I was collecting our brand new 8 week old puppy who just happens to be........ginger and black. Another ginger in the family!

The best drink in the world is Crabbies green ginger and whisky. Too much though and you get the hangover from hell!
