As long as the shifts are worked out fairly (in my experience they never are). To view it a different way you didn't do Xmas night and get the bank holiday days. Will anyone swap, shifts should be worked out to suit the staff as well as the management. I always got stuck with Sat night because they knew i was reliable, those that wasn't should have been sacked.

Sassybeast · 19/04/2011 23:41

So you had Christmas day off ? and Boxing day ? And you have Easter Sunday off ? And all of Easter Monday ? No - you shouldn't be upset.

Birdsgottafly · 19/04/2011 23:41

It depends on wether all of the parents in your work have childcare issues, thats often the problem.

backwardpossom · 19/04/2011 23:44

Are you being paid extra for working on a holiday? Double time, for example?

reelingintheyears · 19/04/2011 23:47

You have to do what you have to do...

Tis the nature of your job.

I had to do it when my DC were small...

And i did nights.

It's a drag.

And you're tired.

I hope your Easter is fun though.

glassortwo · 20/04/2011 09:24

We all have to do shifts we dont want to do, I have GC 3 and 5 all week and work evenings, this week I will work Mon, Thurs, Fri evenings, Sat daytime have sunday off and work Mon daytime, then very similar next week. But it keeps the wolf from the door.

PlopPlopPing · 20/04/2011 09:30

Wow you sound like my SIL. Works a couple of days a week but complains aobut it everytime it falls on a day she'd rather not do.

FabbyChic · 20/04/2011 10:02

If you cannot get child care then you cannot work one of the shifts, you need to tell them that childcare is impossible and that you cannot do it, but will do another night, maybe you can change it for the Easter Sunday instead?

meliesmummy · 20/04/2011 13:52

I sympathise about your childcare issue but I'm working those 2 nights too...19:00 - 7:30 and I'm still intending to have a nice day on Sunday. And I worked Christmas night as well. It goes with the job unfortunately! Did you have the opportunity to request the weekend off? Are you working the following one?

x2boys · 20/04/2011 16:19

you only work one night a week i did four a week before i had ds2 everybody has to do there share even if you only work one night incidentally i,m working long day easter saturdy 7.30am untill 9pm late shift easter monday late shift royal wedding 1.30pm -9pm and early shift mayday ok i work full time so obviousley have to do more undesirable shifts also i worked xmaseve xmasday and nye just part and parcel of the job

ENormaSnob · 20/04/2011 16:48

Yabu

KaraStarbuckThrace · 20/04/2011 17:00

I used to do continental shifts, 4 12 hour days on, 4 off, 4 nights on 4 off.
I had to work Millenium Eve night and New Year's day night, as well as Christmas Eve day which meant driving 3 hours that evening so I could spend Christmas with my mum.
I sucked it up, it was just the way the rota fell.

YABVU.
