AIBU to think that butter and marmalade with shreds is by far the best toast topping?

No one say Marmite... Bleurgh!

And do people really eat sardines on toast as I have never seen anyone do it so am starting to believe it is a myth.

Hubby has sardines on toast!! >>Barf

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 08/04/2011 09:30

Peanut butter and banana is a hard one to beat imo.

DastardlyandSmuttily · 08/04/2011 09:31

See I thought this was going to be a thread about Toast Toppers. Those funny Heinz tin things - anyone else remember them?

God my diet as a child was shocking! Grin

Magna · 08/04/2011 09:32

Butter and raspberry jam for me.

Marmite with you on that op [yuck]

Quenelle · 08/04/2011 09:34

A friend of mine used to have tinned tomatoes on toast [queasy emoticon]

Seona1973 · 08/04/2011 09:34

ham and coleslaw is yum on toast. I also like butter and jam on warm toast so it all goes soft and melty

Seona1973 · 08/04/2011 09:35

does anyone remember lemon curd?

p.s. hate marmalade and marmite

dandycandyjellybean · 08/04/2011 09:35

Lashings of butter ~ one slice marmalade, one slice marmite!!! Mwa mwa mwa (evil laugh)

With you iliketomoveitmoveit also, that's my pre gym brekkie. Has to be accompanied by tea, made in a teapot served in a china mug. Mmmm....Brew

theborrower · 08/04/2011 09:35

Marmite!
or peanut butter.

I like sardines on toast too

FreudianSlippery · 08/04/2011 09:36

I'm really unpredictable with my toast toppings. DH only ever cooks the toast, as he's never sure what I want on it - nor am I until the last minute.

I like a toast sandwich with one side nutella and the other peanut butter.

Or jam or marmalade or sometimes just plain flora buttery. Ooh or lemon curd, yum.

Now I'm hungry Envy

TragicallyHip · 08/04/2011 09:37

YABU! Marmalade should be shredless!

Bloodymary · 08/04/2011 09:37

Mushrooms cooked in butter!!!

LDNmummy · 08/04/2011 09:42

I love a piece of lemon curd toast on ocassion, also with butter though.

Tinned tomatoes Shock

My mum used to hide marmite in between the butter and marmalade so I wouldn't notice as a kid. Still remember the day I sussed it, I spat it back out onto the kitchen floor, it was such a shock! Grin

Marmalade is great. But also:
Taramasalata
Mustard and the sardines
Marinated anchovies
Marmite (sorry!) with cheese on top
Crunch peanut butter

Magna · 08/04/2011 09:43

Seona lemon curd forgot all about that. That has to be brown toast for lemon curd and white for jam Smile

Honeybee79 · 08/04/2011 09:43

Mustard and then sardines . . .

OTheHugeManatee · 08/04/2011 09:48

EITHER butter and Marmite

OR Frank Cooper's thick cut marmalade.

OR scrambled eggs

OR Heinz beans

Unless you're talking teatime, in which case mushrooms sauteed with garlic and thyme and a splash of white wine.

emsyj · 08/04/2011 09:58

Tinned tomatoes on toast is lovely.

My mum eats sardines on toast .

Cheese (grated) mixed with tinned chopped tomatoes and finely chopped onion, spread on toast and grilled, is the very KING of toast toppings.

Soups · 08/04/2011 09:59

Thin spead of mustard.

snoozin · 08/04/2011 10:00

@Freudian -- a toasted nutella/PB sandwich is devine! Love 'em too.

Also a fave - toast topped with butter & sprinkled with cinnamon/sugar : )

fluffyanimal · 08/04/2011 10:01

What is the point of shredless marmalade? That's like baked beans without the beans.

Honeybee79 · 08/04/2011 10:04

2 pieces of toast, one with marmite, one with peanut butter - put them together for lovely toasted sarnie. Been eating that since I was about 4!

Crawling · 08/04/2011 10:04

My friend has toast and butter then dips the toast in her tea (like dunking biscuits) and after drinks the tea even though there is butter floating in the tea ewwwww.

TragicallyHip · 08/04/2011 10:09

Hardly the same as baked beans without the beans, that would just be tomato sauce!

I hate eating the peel, I always pick it off..
