BooBooGlass · 31/03/2011 16:54

I dread getting old and getting lavender pillow every christmas. yanbu

clitorisorclitoraint · 31/03/2011 16:55

I like lavender.

MadMommaMemoo · 31/03/2011 16:55

I gave birth to a 12lb baby using just lavender to calm me!!

marmaladetwatkins · 31/03/2011 16:55

I like lavender plants but hate lavender products. They always smell like stale piss.

clitorisorclitoraint · 31/03/2011 17:00

Yes, lavender plants are lovely. Not sure I'd want to douse myself in Yardley every day though!!

Bucharest · 31/03/2011 17:01

YABVVU.
Real proper lavender smells now't like the icky sweet powdery stuff.
Real lavender oil products are so therapeutic.....
It's the one "beauty" ish product I am never ever without.

wobblyweeble82 · 31/03/2011 17:02

LAvender products are old lady-ish and I always half expect them to have ammonia undertones... However, lavender essential oil is AMAZING. Especially on burns AND as a mild analgesic. I've got a bottle packed in my hospital bag madmommamemoo for that very reason :)

grovel · 31/03/2011 17:04

Fight! Fight! Fight!

Therapeutic vs smelling of piss

Are these actually mutually exclusive?

OP posts:
midnightservant · 31/03/2011 17:06

Lavender in food - eew! Especially creme brulee and ice cream.

clitorisorclitoraint · 31/03/2011 17:06

I use lavender oil in DD's nappy bucket. Actually reduces the smell of ammonia!

marmaladetwatkins · 31/03/2011 17:06

Agree about it being ace on burns. I keep a bottle handy in my kitchen especially for the many occasions I try to remove baking trays from hot ovens without remembering to put on gloves.

Ouch.

wornoutbutstillwonderful · 31/03/2011 17:28

I can't stand the stuff it gives me a headache.

issey6cats · 31/03/2011 18:21

i love real lavender have several plants in my garden smells lovely in the summer when your drinking a brew on the patio and they encourage bummble bees and butterflies too

melpomene · 31/03/2011 18:23

I've tried the essential oil on burns and it did nothing. And my dds have heated lavender bags which don't seem to help them get to sleep. But I do like the smell.

peeriebear · 31/03/2011 18:24

All my lavenders died in the harsh winter :( I was really surprised, one of them was huge! DH loves them though so I will be replanting. I like the smell but it can be a bit overbearing, and I certainly wouldn't have it in food! [boak]

Mandy2003 · 31/03/2011 18:28

I've just got one for my patio too! The essential oil is great, the fake lavender scented stuff not so! Thinks "lavender scented stuffed padded coathangers made in the day centre...."

I was at the garden centre with my Dad today in fact, and he found lavender in with the edible herbs. He said surely that's wrong, people don't eat it do they? Yes I said. His face said it all Hmm

mummytime · 31/03/2011 18:29

I love lavender and lavender oil is my magic go to sleep cure. But I couldn't stand the smell in pregnancy, and don't get anything else lavender smelling (except maybe home-made real lavender bags).

Firawla · 31/03/2011 18:35

yabu i like it, and i am not old.
wouldnt like it in food though that seems weird

MadameOvary · 31/03/2011 18:38

I love lavender, but only the real stuff and essential oil. Fake stuff is vile.

tulpe · 31/03/2011 19:51

Lavender is lovely. But agree that only the real thing will do. Anything fake smells vile.

BTW, for all you ladies using lavender in pregnancy - please ensure it is Lavandula Angustifolia and not Lavandula Stoechas. The latter is potentially dangerous during pregnancy.

JaneS · 31/03/2011 20:14

I love it - the real not the fake. Blokes love it too, oddly. I put it on my wrists when I knackered and need to smell something soothing, and always get men telling me I'm wearing a really nice perfume.

Sorry everyone ... if your DH has bought you a bottle of Yardley it's probably my fault! Grin

Ragwort · 31/03/2011 20:16

I love lavender - especially Yardley's Grin.

Anyone tried the new Yardley's limited edition 'Daisy' fragrance?

MissMontoya · 31/03/2011 20:17

I love lavender oil, but not lavender products. same with rose.

Hassled · 31/03/2011 20:18

Oh I love Lavender. I always have done - loved it in the National Trust shops I'd visit with my mother when I was a kid. I was born with the tastes of a 70 year old.

southeastastra · 31/03/2011 20:19
