I know someone posted yesterday but I cant find the thread but I;ve just received mine in the post today.

For those who havent got theirs it is pages and pages long.

How the frig can knowing about my qualifications, ethnic origin, how many O levels I got have any bearing on what public transport to provide.

Why the fuck do they need to know what I do for a living and why should I 'briefly describe what I do'. How is that going to help them decide what health care to provide.

I mean, why do they need to know how many rooms I have, what heating system it has.

Such a gross invasion of privacy.

Where does it say that by law I have signed up for this shit.

They do think this will probably be the last - as the 2001 was 1 million people short and they made up 1 million people and added them to the census.

i did have a friend at the time who was left out of the census - she never received a form or a call at the door - possibly because she lived on a canal boat. Though boat people haven't been left out before and she was moored at the same place for 6 months. Not a lot you can do if they leave you out.

ivykaty44 · 08/03/2011 20:16

chouf - schools addmissions and birth registers, marriage registers and death registers, doctors registers and council tax figures

Claz1001 · 08/03/2011 20:21

I haven't got one, why haven't I got one?? Not that I am keen to to complete one or anything, but I am a bit concerned that I haven't received the form when everyone else seems to have!

Qu 17 is for Welsh people (ie in WAles), about whether you speak Welsh or English. Was left out for England

Summerbird73 · 08/03/2011 20:34

It is a punishable Public Order offence if you refuse to complete it. In 2001/2 I worked in the dept that served the summonses and prepared the prosecution.

I am all for it, wanting to trace my own family history and so will be relying on the published census, quite looking forward to it

Missymorrison87 · 08/03/2011 20:37

I haven't got one and i really hope they dont bother to send me one.

I'm on the whole side of what the fuck is it to do with them who we had here overnight on the 27th??

and the rest of the questions, well, what a load of BS.

If they need the information for public services then fine, but at least give me the option of anon!!!

I also find it hard to undrstand why it would cost them the same ammount of money to scrap it! Surely they just dont bother sending it out or hiring staff? Where do they spend the money getting rid of it???

"Oh lets not bother with the cencus this year" burns a few million £'s on a bonfire ??????????

DiscoDaisy · 08/03/2011 20:44

We have more than 6 people in our household so I have the joy of sorting an extra copy!

TheHeathenOfSuburbia · 08/03/2011 20:44

Well, at least you don't have to return to your husband's ancestral village to fill it out, when you're just about to give birth. Wink

exoticfruits - "You might be dead!" Are you my Mum?! That's her answer to every forward-planning-thing, famously including the time I bought concert tickets for a gig 6 months away... Hmm

iskra · 08/03/2011 20:48

Interesting article in the Guardian a while back about undercounting in the last census. They reckon from sewage output (which is apparently the only way of estimating how many people live somewhere 'cause everyone shits) that Slough has 30,000 uncounted residents. That is HUGE when it comes to allocating school places, hospital resources etc.

BaroqueAroundTheClock · 08/03/2011 20:48

It's actually the UK "American" company that is involved.................mind you even if they were shipping all the stuff over to the US I'd probably trust them more than I trust Capita not to lose half the forms before they even get to the number crunchers Grin

RustyBear · 08/03/2011 20:49

My Dad is proud of the fact that he will be appearing on two censuses 100 years apart. He was 11 months old in 1911 and will be just a few days short of 101 on Census day this year. Despite his age, he is not contemplating being dead by then!

BaroqueAroundTheClock · 08/03/2011 20:50

oh wow Rusty - that's pretty amazing, hope you manage to get online to see his entry for him to see Grin

Maybe they shit more than average in Slough.

FilthyRichAndCatflap · 08/03/2011 20:53

Some people really piss me off! They're happy to take free healthcare and free education and all the things the state provides us with, and vote for who they want to see in power, and travel with the UK passport that gets you through most border controls....but are unwilling to give up 10 mins of their time, once every ten years, to provide that state with some info which will be helpful in planning the future of the state and which will be of huge historical interest to our descendants. Please people, get a life and have some civic responsibility! If you are mistrustful of the census, at least do a bit of research and arm yourselves with the FACTS before declaring that it's nosy or whatever.

OK, rant over Grin

Religion - Mumsnetter

StealthPolarBear · 08/03/2011 21:06

yes spb, otherwise it's a survey :)
Wow Rusty, that's amazing!

Missymorrison87 · 08/03/2011 21:07

Well, let face it. It i nosey and to be honest is just another way for this big brother state to keep an eye on people. Got nothing to actually do with whats best for your community. So no, its not the 10 mins of wasted time i care about its the fact that this is bullshit and i have no choice but to do it or they will deliberately slap me with a £1000 fine i cant afford to pay because i'd rather keep my life private.

And yes choccyp1g everyone is to fill it out.

orienteerer · 08/03/2011 21:07

The unaccounted for Slough residents are probably these.

Mumcentreplus · 08/03/2011 21:09

Fill the Census so so i can collect it Grin..

seriously what has free healthcare etc got to do with a census..you pay TAX to fund freeness...hense it is not actually free..we pay for it!..if you want to fill it do so..just make sure you do it in my area Grin

stella1w · 08/03/2011 21:11

I don't mind it too much but am annoyed that it seems to want you to answer all the questions for a three year old - surely there should be a box to tick to say - under five/16 or whatever, rather than have to answer all the questions about religion/work etc.
Also seems to me they have missed a trick. If you have to ask questions of a pre-schooler, why not make them relevant - are you in daycare fulltime, part time etc.

BuzzLiteBeer · 08/03/2011 21:14

Add up your tax, add up what you get for your cash. No way the former comes close to the latter, so yep, still pretty much free, most of it.

mycarscallednev · 08/03/2011 21:19

My DH just loves the fact he can put Jedi down for religion!!
