I know someone posted yesterday but I cant find the thread but I;ve just received mine in the post today.

For those who havent got theirs it is pages and pages long.

How the frig can knowing about my qualifications, ethnic origin, how many O levels I got have any bearing on what public transport to provide.

Why the fuck do they need to know what I do for a living and why should I 'briefly describe what I do'. How is that going to help them decide what health care to provide.

I mean, why do they need to know how many rooms I have, what heating system it has.

Such a gross invasion of privacy.

Where does it say that by law I have signed up for this shit.

like what? What might happen?

exoticfruits · 08/03/2011 19:27

You might be dead!
(sorry-not nice to contemplate but possible)
In my case I don't know who will be staying.

Choufleur · 08/03/2011 19:39

Fill in most of it then and just finish it off after the 27th. You can save the online form.

peeriebear · 08/03/2011 19:40

I don't get what the fuss is about. People know where I live, who I'm married to, what qualifications I have and where I work; why the big hoohah about having it all on one form? It's hardly an invasion of privacy, there's nothing that isn't already out there. It doesn't ask you for your favourite position or if you take it up the wrongun on Fridays.

Took me less than 10 minutes to fill in the paper based form yesterday for me, DH and8y DD. ill fill last page in on 27th incase of visitors overnight - unlikely though.

I thought it would be more detailed tbh. It will make for an interesting reflection in 100 yeras when our future relatives get to see it and look back on like in 2011.

I didn't find it an invasion of my privacy at all tbh. There is nothing there that is particularly sensitive information, and the religious one (which some people find sensitive)is voluntary.

Choufleur · 08/03/2011 19:43

In a hundred years yes it will be published. You are most likely to be dead when it's published.

Hulababy · 08/03/2011 19:44

myhouseisnotamess - yes, eventually - in 100 years it will be in the public domain. The 1911 has just become available recently.

It took 10 mins max to fill it n for my family of 5 inc DHs complicated job(s)

I didn't find it an invasion of privacy either. It didn't ask anything private.

LetsgoflyaBlatherskite · 08/03/2011 19:55

DH has finally realised that "None" is a perfectly valid answer to the religion question. :)

Maiidamess · 08/03/2011 19:57

I'll wager the 'no. of rooms' thing will up our council tax

Mrsmackie · 08/03/2011 19:59

Took 15 mins to do it and not exactly a big invasion of privacy or very taxing. Don't see what the big fuss is about!

How I wish I could make up a load of bollocks
but I'm too much of a coward!!

For a start - my name would be Poopants McPlop and I would be a lion tamer.

It's fine, I don't really see the problem. The info will be confidential. Just do it! It doesn't ask for salary information or anything like that.

Took me 15 mins online for family of 4.

ivykaty44 · 08/03/2011 20:06

All my ancestors lied on the census - I really don't want to break a couple of centuries of tradition.

One census I came across in 1861 had a few lion tamers and elephant walkers as occupations along with wh*re for one of the females a few other very suspect occupations and some odd ages ranging up to 120 all in the same house - so it would appear we aren't the first to think its a load of bollocks!

ivykaty44 · 08/03/2011 20:07

The info will be confidential - there is doubt about that as the company collecting the info is American and therefore there own government has rights to go through the information they collect, there has been some stuff around concerning this matter.

It should be confidential for 100 years

Choufleur · 08/03/2011 20:09

Why would it be used to up council tax? that is set locally not used by central government to decide how much it gives to different areas of the country.

bemybebe · 08/03/2011 20:10

I do have a problem with too much personal info being held in one place. If it was just for planning/etc why is it necessary to name names?

YellowDinosaur · 08/03/2011 20:11

More to the point (and sorry if this has already been said but I only read the first 3 posts)...

WHAT was question 17 meant to be and why was it pulled? (only explanation I can think of for why question 17 says 'this is intentionally blank. Got to question 18')

Trifle · 08/03/2011 20:12

Do you know this census cost £30 million to do.

When the Conservatives came into power they looked at scrapping it. Due to the amount of money already been spent on producing it they discovered it would just as much to scrap it so decided it was easier to just do it.

I can think of a lot better things to spend £30 million quid on that a bloody census.

17,how long is your penis?

ivykaty44 · 08/03/2011 20:12

for planing urinals and the distance from the floor Wink

Choufleur · 08/03/2011 20:13

But if you don't do the census how can you accurately decide where to target resources?
