To Really, Really, Hate That Word?

WhyDoesThatWordExist · 25/02/2011 17:03

Call me an old prude, but, why does the 'C**t' word exist? And why do so many MNers use it? It HAS to be the most offensive, crude, word there is?

The way I see it, it shows exactly what sort of person you are, if you think it's okay to use it? Or is it my age showing?

Go on, flame me.....

bupcakes, I have a very big head- I fear you may be right.

You cunt.

Spuddybean · 25/02/2011 23:31

i haven't read all the posts so i apologise if someone has made the point before but i find this word a feminist issue. I feel its about time women took the word back.

Words can be used against us unless we remove ourselves and think of the meaning. I'm not suggesting we reduce ourselves to description of our genetalia but surely we can use this powerfully. The strong dynamic women use this word the more we take the power away from it.

Just like black rappers have done with the word nigger and gay marchers at pride have done with the word queer, women could take the power of this word and reduce it.

bupcakesandcunting · 25/02/2011 23:33

Imagine....

OP: "I don't much like drinking gin. It's vile, gives you a bad hangover and makes you cry."

poster 2: "yabu, gin is GREAT!"

poster 3: "but what do you think about young children drinking gin?"

Do you see my point?

Or do you need more help?

bupcakesandcunting · 25/02/2011 23:34

Oh, Tether. How I love thee...

PaulaYatesbiggestfan · 25/02/2011 23:35

Oh yes, I see your point bupcakes. But you're kind of missing mine.

It's pretty unlikely that a small child will get hold of gin, or cigarettes, certainly if their parents are careful about where they keep these kinds of things. However, they are very likely going to hear swear words in nursery, school, etc. So that's why I asked the question. I really wasn't trying to be smart or silly. I was genuinely curious, and, to be honest, I'm a little offended that people have taken it the way they have. It was something I thought of so I asked it. In fact, your kind of response and that of StayFrosty and I think one or two others mean that I will think twice in future before I do ask a question.

By they way, I hate gin - mine's a voddie and tonic, heavy on the ice, and a slice of lemon please. Smile

In a world where ?cock? is a strong, dominant, powerful term and ?pussy? is a delicate, fluffy, vulnerable term, some feminists have chosen to reclaim ?c*nt? for their own, and consider it a powerful statement/term in connection with their womanhood.

Now I remember why I have not looked at NM's for a long while.

Tethersend You work with children?? Shock I'm glad its not mine! Shudder!

I agree with posters who find this word offensive - especially used in fromt of children and parents.

HenriettaFarthingay · 25/02/2011 23:45

StayFrosty, I didn't say anything about not being argued with. I suppose I just thought from the wide range of intelligent women on this board, I might, just might mind you, get an intelligent answer. I didn't. Pity that.

Oh, and the Pals offer stands. Grin

worraliberty · 25/02/2011 23:47

I don't like the word much but I wouldn't start a thread about it. Or if I did, I wouldn't name change just to do so and then bugger off lol.

tethersend · 25/02/2011 23:47

burger- I might work with yours. You don't know. It's the internet.

hymie · 25/02/2011 23:49

"Took the word back"?

Wassup Nigger sounds nasty even now after hearing it over and over again.

Wassup cunt sounds even worse.

What a mad crazy world we live in ehh?

Clunge · 25/02/2011 23:50

I hate the word vagina. It offends me. I love the word cunt. And clunge, obv.

TondelayoSchwarzkopf · 25/02/2011 23:54

"Knee deep in clunge" - brilliant. (Love the inbetweeners)

TondelayoSchwarzkopf · 25/02/2011 23:55

Nobody says 'wassup' any more. It's not 2001.

hymie · 25/02/2011 23:57

Forgive me.

I'm cuntin' gettin' on already.

Wassup is about as modern as I get i'm afraid.

TondelayoSchwarzkopf · 26/02/2011 00:04

TondelayoSchwarzkopf · 26/02/2011 00:06

That was my Danny Dyer impression btw.

burgerandchipswithredsauce · 26/02/2011 00:08

Tethersend. I can guarantee you don't work with my DC's. As a poster said Each To Their Own. I live in quite a rough part of town. We always know which parents are the ones to not allow our kids to go to tea after school with. They are usually the ones huddled in a corner in the school yard, at home time, cackling and swearing amongst each other and gobbing off at their kids as soon as they have come out of class. BTW they are usually the ones who have been dragged up by parents who dont know better and use the word cunt in front of their children/grandchildren.

Around here we talk about them behind their backs and refuse their kids to come in and play with our kids even though there may be other classmates in our house playing as well. Oh and we do not invite these kids to our DC's birthday parties either - because they have been dragged brought up to cause offence to others without meaning to or even knowing they are causing offence. All because their parents don't have the knowledge of what is acceptable and what is not.
