Thought I'd try them as had heard on MN that they were good.

Disgusting. Really salty and like eating a soggy sponge. It stuck to the roof of my mouth.

Yuck.

They are too doughy by far

Onetoomanycornettos · 13/02/2011 11:18

I agree, you seem to have to toast them for hours to stop them being claggy, then they are like little circle bricks. Only good thing is if you put Lurpack on, drowns out the taste.

usualsuspect · 13/02/2011 11:19

All crumpets are disgusting

Schnitzel · 13/02/2011 11:19

Can anyone actually recommend any good crumpets? They certainly do NOT taste like they used to do.

ChippingInAuntyToThomas · 13/02/2011 11:22

Warburtons are OK - my favorite in the UK are the more expensive of the two Waitrose ones - about the only thing that's worth going to Waitrose for! (Oh the Cloudy Lemonade too :) ).

FabbyChic · 13/02/2011 11:25

My son dislikes them, he prefers Asda homebrand.

PlanetEarth · 13/02/2011 11:39

Love them, they're my favourites Smile.

Warburtons crumpets are rubbish, Mother's Pride are the best.

ApocalypseCheeseToastie · 13/02/2011 11:43

after extensive crumpet research I have found asda farmstores to be the best. Lovely and crispy

theresapotatoundermysink · 13/02/2011 11:44

YADBU. They're the best.

BelligerentGhoul · 13/02/2011 11:45

YANBU - soggy and spongey and flavourless. I'm normally really fussy about things being over-salty but I thought these tasted like they had no salt at all.

ethelina · 13/02/2011 11:46

YANBU All crumpets are disgusting.

Bogeyface · 13/02/2011 11:46

I prefer Warburtons to the cheaper ones, they taste far nicer! But I like mine well toasted and the own brand ones tend to go like discuses (disci?!).

Each to their own, but imo yes YABU! :o

Fenouille · 13/02/2011 11:47

YANBU, they are far too doughy - Sainsbury's or M&S are much better.

southeastastra · 13/02/2011 12:02

i started a similar thread at christmas Grin seems you either love or hate em

GwendolineMaryLacey · 13/02/2011 12:04

Warburtons are the king of crumpets. For years I bought supermarket own, they they were on special offer and I was converted. Other brands are like cream crackers in comparison

coastgirl · 13/02/2011 12:07

YABU - they're the best ones! All the others are too weedy.

Tramadol · 13/02/2011 12:07

Warburtons are the best. Havent found them doughy or soggy at all - mind we always toast twice so that they are just at the right 'hardness'.

MrsSparkle · 13/02/2011 12:13

I second the Waitrose ones! They are lovely.

Warburtons and any others they have a longish shelf life are discusting and have a weird smell which i assume is the perservertives they put in.

WaddlingSheep · 13/02/2011 12:18

YANBU

They are too thick and doughy. I prefer Tesco's own or thinner ones with lots and lots of butter, yum!

Bogeyface · 13/02/2011 13:01

I think it all depends on if you are a double toaster or not!

I cant stand them when they have been through the toaster once, they dont brown and are doughy. I put them through twice so they are nicely browned and a wee bit crunchy on the outside.

Iggly · 13/02/2011 14:08

I will try double toasting. However it was the amount of salt in them that got me gagging! Shock

YANBU. I can't eat them. Kingsmill or shop home brand are best.
