The new Detol advert on MN is annoying to the extreme. First of all it's so bloody patronising. Please don't be fooled mothers by these twatty advertisers.

"Soap Pumps harbour hundreds of germs"

Allow me to inform you, your pristine hands, even after a good scrub harbour up to a million microbes PER SQUARE INCH. Hundreds of bacteria on the soap pump will do shit all detrimental to your health, the reason the count is slo low is because THE SOAP KILLS GERMS.

Other than that, what the hell do they think we're going to be doing after TOUCHING the soap pump? I for one will be WASHING MY HANDS WITH THE SOAP.

Please don't be fooled into buying expensive BS thinking you're helping your family, spend it on a nice day out in a nice germy park and have some fun :)

Also it annoys me that it auto plays the video and audio, so blasts out of your speakers without warning if you've left them on. It's just rude.

Quite

Eleison · 17/01/2011 10:01

Lol at the apocalyptic music in some of these ads. I think they are trying to tell MNers to build dettol into their Zombie plans. "Kills 99% of the Undead, without tainting food."

sandyballs · 17/01/2011 10:04

comletely agree, All these dettol adverts about soap pumps and hand washing are making my DD OCD

bamboobutton · 17/01/2011 10:04

yanbu in the slightest.

i hate all this germaphobia. dh grew up in a sterile, hermetically sealed house and is ill all the bloody time. seriously, every week he has some some sniffle and i have lost all patience and sympathy with it now.

my house is rarely cleaned with elbow grease and a bit of flash and hands are ashed with normal soap.

BillBrysonsRucksack · 17/01/2011 10:09

Just started a thread about the Cilit Bang ad which does exactly the same. It's not the sentiment (which is annoying in the extreme) but the invasion of my MN which is REALLY PEEING ME OFF!

sparkle12mar08 · 17/01/2011 10:12

Get Adblocker...

kreecherlivesupstairs · 17/01/2011 10:14

Sparkle, you've answered the question of why I don't get mithered by the ads. DH is an IT teacher so we are super insulated against ad's and pop ups.

bibbitybobbityhat · 17/01/2011 10:14

i'm an utter technophobe. Can anyone tell me how to "get" Adblocker?

Ta.

InPraiseOfBacchus · 17/01/2011 10:14

It's almost as if we want our kids to develop crippling allergies! Ditch the Dettol (except in emergencies) and just be clean!

BillBrysonsRucksack · 17/01/2011 10:16

I don't normally get any pop ups or anything, these are just on the side of the pages on MN.

AdsensePlease · 17/01/2011 10:19

I'm all for cleanliness, I just can't stand marketers BS.

PS, also if you could post a simple guide on installing Adblocker that would be amazing for me :)

I've had to turn my sound off

VinegarTits · 17/01/2011 10:24

i shout at the TV everytime i see a cunting dettol advert

ensure · 17/01/2011 10:24

The noise; hate it. I left MN open on my phone and went to boil the kettle. It freaked me out, this little voice coming out. I thought the fridge was squeaking at me.

MyrrhyBS · 17/01/2011 10:25

I haven't even seen/heard the ad - the noScript java script blocker must be doing its job!

Don't advertisers realise if they upset people too much it'll put them off the product!

ILovedYou · 17/01/2011 10:27

LOL annot=ying to the MAX is dan=mn right!

It interrupts my Youtube music.

Why haven't we the option of muting the sound? I am sure there used to be this option available?
Grrrrrrrrrr Angry

PlentyOfParsnips · 17/01/2011 10:31

Yes, I've been shouted at about cilit bang this morning too Angry

Is it a site fault making the ads autoplay?

AdsensePlease · 17/01/2011 10:34

I don't know, I wonder if they have a say in what type of ads they serve. Ads are better than no ads if it means keeping MN alive, but intrusive, annoying ads are hardly going to encourage you to click them.

ILovedYou · 17/01/2011 10:37

PMSL @ cilit bang - i haven't seen that one YET.

@ Cock right off Grin

susall · 17/01/2011 10:39

I am another flash and soap user and my 3 are very rarely ill, they couldnt even get blooming chicken pox from their cousin, led to an interesting conversation about how dd would not turn into a chicken if she caught it.
The thing with this ad is they are pushing the benefits of a touch free soap pump but what about the taps? You touch them before the soap and then after you have washed your hands so give me hands free taps instead of a blinkin soap pump.

AdsensePlease · 17/01/2011 10:42

Yes exactly, are you expected to invest in hands free flush, taps and door handles too? All of them are far worst offenders than the bloody soap pump :D

duchesse · 17/01/2011 10:45

You're right, it's flipping annoying, plus it plays over the top of the music I'm listening to which is really annoying. I shut down the MN window when it comes on, which may not quite be the intention of the ad.

SmethwickBelle · 17/01/2011 10:47

I agree that the advert makes no sense. Once you've coated your hands with soap, even if it was a "germy" old fashioned dispenser you'd be lathering them up and washing the soap and germs off with hot water, presumably.

The only way you'd be picking up new germs is if you felt the need to lick the dispenser at any point during the process.

ilovemyhens · 17/01/2011 10:47

I quite like my germs Grin

They make me feel like I have lots of little friends around me when I'm out and about on my own.
