The new Detol advert on MN is annoying to the extreme. First of all it's so bloody patronising. Please don't be fooled mothers by these twatty advertisers.

"Soap Pumps harbour hundreds of germs"

Allow me to inform you, your pristine hands, even after a good scrub harbour up to a million microbes PER SQUARE INCH. Hundreds of bacteria on the soap pump will do shit all detrimental to your health, the reason the count is slo low is because THE SOAP KILLS GERMS.

Other than that, what the hell do they think we're going to be doing after TOUCHING the soap pump? I for one will be WASHING MY HANDS WITH THE SOAP.

Please don't be fooled into buying expensive BS thinking you're helping your family, spend it on a nice day out in a nice germy park and have some fun :)

Also it annoys me that it auto plays the video and audio, so blasts out of your speakers without warning if you've left them on. It's just rude.

I don't see why they can't all just wash their bloody hands the normal way so as not to spread that twinkly stuff everywhere. And surely no self-respecting 8 yo girl would put her hand straight in some other kid's snot?

When you have millions of little friends like that, who needs enemies?

Grin - hmm i shall never feel lonely again when out on myown -0 thanks to you ilovemyhens

manicbmc · 17/01/2011 10:59

Yep - kills 99% of all germs - most of which are utterly harmless and some of which are rather helpful.

Used anti-bac soap once for a few weeks and the whole household came down with a tummy bug.

ILovedYou · 17/01/2011 12:23

lmao - glad you are all better now though of course x

radiohelen · 17/01/2011 12:48

YABU - Children explode when they come into contact with germs....

Haven't you seen this???

Jux · 17/01/2011 15:48

Grin at that clip

DuplicitousBitch · 17/01/2011 15:54

mariella frostrup should be ashamed of her self, her voice over abilities are powerful and should be misused in this way

FindingStuffToChuckOut · 17/01/2011 15:54

"Soap Pumps harbour hundreds of germs"

the 100's in the above sentence always annoys me or makes me laugh (depending on my mood) too! Hundreds indeed!

I haven't noticed the ad on MN - just on TV. I don't buy this kind of stuff - it's mentally filed in my "useless crap/do they think I was born yesterday" file.

FabbyChic · 17/01/2011 15:55

The detol adverts make me laugh, you still have to dry your hands and there is no idea of what germs are harbouring on the towel!

ConnorTraceptive · 17/01/2011 15:59

Apart from an eco bathroom cleaner I don't use any other cleaning products in my house, just water and micro fibre cloths.

I am openly mocked by dh's family about my lack of housekeeping standards but I can count on one hand the number of times both ds's have needed anti biotics whereas SIL kids are on them all the time. I am seriously shocked at how often their GP prescribes them TBH.

BreconBeBuggered · 17/01/2011 16:01

There's a Dettol advert on MN? How come I only ever see the one for Boden?

brambleschooks · 17/01/2011 16:49

It is a really badly planned product. I can't say that I ever go and caress my soap dispenser without then rinsing hands prior to eating.
Dettol will have to invent door handle and tap covers that KILL germs.

Jux · 18/01/2011 10:17

Ideally you should laminate your children.

HelenMumsnet · 18/01/2011 11:44

Hello. Just to let you know, that ad (and the Cillit Bang one) were rogue ads Shock that crept onto MN due to a glitch in our ad server.

But, as the man (sorta) says, BANG and the ads are gone!

SarahStrattonsBaubles · 18/01/2011 11:50

I never saw them Grin

I got offered a 'flu pack' by the chemists when I went to pick up DD2's Tamiflu. It was a freebie sponsored by...

...Dettol Hmm

brambleschooks · 18/01/2011 18:24

We never get glitches resulting in nuddy piccies of Daniel Craig though, do we?
