Hi all, I'm new here 'waves' and for the life of me I can't work this out despite going through the settings...so I'm just going to come straight out and ask ya all!!

Is there a way of knowing that a thread you've read or posted on has been updated? Or do you just have to remember the name of the last person who posted and then look to see if it's changed?

I know there's buttons up the top there ^ that say 'I started' or 'Last 15 mins' etc...but is there no little icon next to the thread title to simply show it's been updated since the last time you clicked it?

Oh and if there's any kind of weird initiation ceremony for newbies...involving goats blood and midgets let's just get on with it Grin

Hello and welcome Smile

I find the easiest way is to bookmark a thread you're on, then when you click on Threads I'm On you can see if it's been posted on since you posted.

Get stuck in - no initiation necessary!

mutznutz · 30/12/2010 23:09

Well thanks for the welcome Sidge and for the advice! Smile

Sooo...put the goat back in the cupboard and send the midget back to the panto huh? Lol

If there's any baptism of fire, it's your first posting in AIBU, especially if you get a good roasting.

I'd be very interested to see if anyone could turn your benign OP into being offensive somehow, but then if some posters can't find a reason they just make one up Grin

mutznutz · 30/12/2010 23:11

Lmao Agent...as long as it's not a frozen Aunt Bessie roasting I'm up for it!!

If I can ever find my damn thread again of course....

OP posts:
Alieight · 30/12/2010 23:13

YABVU...can you not read? There's instructions here

Only joking - welcome to Mumsnet Grin

UnderTheRadar2212 · 30/12/2010 23:14

Mutz... 'a frozen aunt bessie roasting'........... is that somewhat similar to a Premier league roasting, only with ice and knitted bloomers???????????

LovePinkBitsOfMyHorse · 30/12/2010 23:15

I can't believe you not only said 'midget' but also implied that you'd like to see one fellate a syphilitic goat. YABU. And sick.

charliesmommy · 30/12/2010 23:17

I am new too and still struggling with all the abbreviations.. lol!!!

BitOfFun · 30/12/2010 23:17

YABU. Syphilitic goats are soooo 2010. Pandas with chlamydia are the way forward.

mutznutz · 30/12/2010 23:20

Thanks Allieight Grin

Oh I do hope so Radar...somehow it would make my visit here a lot more pleasurable LOL!!

And exactly what 'pink bits' of your horse do you love before you start picking apart my sexual desires for goats??? Wink

OP posts:
mutznutz · 30/12/2010 23:22

Charliesmummy...I'm not even going to go there with the abbreviations!!

I only do 'lol' 'pmsl' and few of the other 'normal' ones.

I don't call my family 'darling husband' 'darling children' or any other freakin 'darling' so I'll just be posting words like...son/husband/mum/dad etc.

What if no-one understands me? LOL Shock

OP posts:
BitOfFun · 30/12/2010 23:24

As long as you don't say hubby or bubs, you'll do just fine.

ZacharyQuack · 30/12/2010 23:24

Hi and welcome.

You can also 'bookmark' your place on a thread. Move your mouse cursor to the bottom right hand corner of the last post on a thread and a wee blue box with "bookmark" should appear (wave your mouse a bit until it turns up). Click this box and it will save your place. The next time you open the thread ("watch" it so you can find it easily), you'll be taken to the place you bookmarked.

LovePinkBitsOfMyHorse · 30/12/2010 23:24

Pandas with chlamydial eye? That explains the markings, but OP please leave my gelding's anal skin tags out of this.

mutznutz · 30/12/2010 23:32

Zachary!! That's exactly what I wanted to know...thank you Grin

I think someone did mention it before but I'm a bit drunk tired now LOL

Oh I certainly won't be saying 'Hubs' 'Bubs' 'Bubby' or 'Hun'...that's for sure!!

OP posts:
ZacharyQuack · 30/12/2010 23:38

Oh good! I hope you understood my convoluted instructions. Grin

mutznutz · 30/12/2010 23:40

(Nods blankly at Zach) Errr...yes, thanks! Grin

OP posts:
CottageFrog · 30/12/2010 23:43

Hi new 'uns. There is a link up the top - Acronyms, which should explain most of the MNspeak. By the way, I am a name changer not a troll - which people sometimes are accused of being if they only have a few posts!

mutznutz · 30/12/2010 23:46

Hi Cottage Grin

Yes I understand the acronyms...but they bug the crap out of me so I wont be using them LOL (well..ok apart from LOL!)

It makes me laugh more when someone types a really long post...yet they type 'DS' instead of 'Son'...I mean it's only one extra letter in the grand scheme of things! But each to their own and all that malarky Smile

OP posts:
charliesmommy · 30/12/2010 23:47

lol.. mutz, thank gawd I am not alone!!

I tried to read a long post earlier and it just got too confusing with df, db, ds, I wasnt sure who was who by the end of it.. lol!

I will stick with the full words I think, or I wont understand me own posts!

FiveColdRingsForSolo · 30/12/2010 23:49

Shock I didn't know that Zachary and I've been here nearly 7 years!!! Grin

mutznutz · 30/12/2010 23:51

Charliesmommy...if the letters were numbers it'd be like a game of bingo lol!!

How do you know how long someone's been posting, fivecoldrings? Smile

OP posts:
FiveColdRingsForSolo · 30/12/2010 23:51

But it's not working for me anyway Hmm

BitOfFun · 30/12/2010 23:54

You don't know how long someone's been posting unless you have the spreadsheet.

DitaVonCheese · 30/12/2010 23:56

I've been here for about three years and have never ever known about the bookmarking thing or dared ask! (Although I can't actually get it to work ...) And I've never seen those Talk instructions either. Fab fab fab Grin
