Hi all, I'm new here 'waves' and for the life of me I can't work this out despite going through the settings...so I'm just going to come straight out and ask ya all!!

Is there a way of knowing that a thread you've read or posted on has been updated? Or do you just have to remember the name of the last person who posted and then look to see if it's changed?

I know there's buttons up the top there ^ that say 'I started' or 'Last 15 mins' etc...but is there no little icon next to the thread title to simply show it's been updated since the last time you clicked it?

Oh and if there's any kind of weird initiation ceremony for newbies...involving goats blood and midgets let's just get on with it Grin

If they have a line under their nn you can click on it and subject to the amount of info on their profile, it may tell you.

BitOfFun joined in July 2008! for example! Wink

Okay, so apparently you have to have the bookmarking thing turned on Blush But it still isn't working

mutznutz · 31/12/2010 00:03

Oh god I know there's nowt worse than a newbie coming along and pissing on people's chips...but I have to say that for such a well publicised forum, it's really not as easy to use as it could be Lol.

A couple of simple things like an automatic 'update icon' at the side of each thread and a 'view last post' icon might bring us all into the millennium LOL.

But I'm sure I'll cope eventually without whining (don't count on it!!)

Anyway, night all and thanks for the welcome Grin

How do you turn it on Dita?

CottageFrog · 31/12/2010 00:05

Bookmarking is relatively new, I'm not keen on the dp/ds etc thing either but you kind of feel you have to join in with everyone else after a while. I was a long time lurker before I posted, and have had several name changes, mainly cos I get bored of them and am not very good at picking a good one!

FiveColdRingsForSolo · 31/12/2010 00:06

I like CottageFrog! it's very...different! Grin

It's in the Customise bit (also new to me) but you have to be using Mumsnet New layout.

OP, I do agree - most of the boards I have used before have been Invision ones, which are way more user-friendly but then do tend to be full of bugs and crash all the time Hmm On balance I think I'll go for the slow + steady MN set up ...

DitaVonCheese · 31/12/2010 00:16

Oh, it just appeared and made me shriek in excitement! Still not on this thread though Hmm

FiveColdRingsForSolo · 31/12/2010 00:24

Thank you, will try it.

FiveColdRingsForSolo · 31/12/2010 00:28

Hey hey!!! got it! thanks Dita Grin
