You're right they're shit. They were the only tins left in our tescos as well so clearly we are not alone.

YANBU. All those cheap seventies throw ups backs are utter crap... Milk Tray, Black Magic, Quality Street, Roses, Celebrations... only beaten by the truly appalling Ferrero Rocher (barf).

VinegarTinselTits · 22/12/2010 08:31

someone must love them though?

if you get a tin as a pressie that means someone doesnt give a shit about you doesnt it?

YANBU.

Even if they weren't Nestlè, I still wouldn't buy them.

Now Roses.... If they could do a whole tin of just caramel kegs (or whatever they are called) I'll be happy. Xmas Grin

Prinnie · 22/12/2010 08:47

I am a chocolate snob but love the memories brought back by the Christmas tin of Roses/Quality Street. when we were kids we'd always have a tin of Roses as a family and it was such a massive treat as chocolate seemed to be proportionally more expensive then (I remember the tins being about £10 in the late 80s). So YANBU - give me Hotel Chocolat any day but I still love them all the same!

FrostyTheCrunchyFrog · 22/12/2010 08:48

Roses are YUM, Quality Street are Poo. My Tesco was completely sold out of Roses, but shelves and shelves of QS remained. Nasty things.

PrettyCandlesAndTinselToo · 22/12/2010 08:55

If they had been updated or changed, then they wouldn't be QS. (Personally, I was most put out when Revels where changed, and they got rid of the 'disgusting' coffee one. Also when blue Smarties were introduced, and then they got rid of the artificial colours. It's just not the same.)

Anyway, I like QS, even though I'm very picky about good chocolate, and lots of people still like it - otherwise they wouldn't get bought, given, and scoffed.

So YABU.

taffetazatyousantaclaus · 22/12/2010 08:59

OK taking the social conscience out of it, Quality Street are good because they are

  • the most retro, somehow, so perfect for Christmas
  • fabulous garish colours great for display in glass bowls etc
  • for reason above, the most loved by my DC

They're not supposed to be actual Quality, ya know. Xmas Grin

Kentmummy · 22/12/2010 09:03

Oh my god! I love them!!! Especially the strawberry creams. I pretty much hate most boxes of chocs but give me a tin of quality street and I'm a happy girl! Easily pleased I guess!

TrillianAstra · 22/12/2010 09:06

But looks what happens if you update them - Roses used to have nice strawberry creams btu now they are bright pink inside and not very creamy and not very nice.

They are prettier too.

What would you eat, bloody Celebrations?

tyzer2001 · 22/12/2010 09:20

There is still a coffee Revel - it was the peanut one that went, surely?

MilkNoSugarPlease · 22/12/2010 09:27

I love quality street!! Best selection tin out there!!

I can't say I bother boycotting Nestle tbh

Yulephemia · 22/12/2010 09:27

Do you remember Terry's Weekend chocolates? People used to give them to my Grandad, who had a stroke when I was wee and got treated like a sick person for the rest of his life. Xmas Sad I think he got thoroughly fed up of these, and because I was a greedy fecker obliging grandaughter, I would often help him with them. Xmas Grin

VinegarTinselTits · 22/12/2010 09:30

i like celebrations

PhishFoodAddiction · 22/12/2010 09:50

YANBU Quality Street are horrible with the exception of the green triangle one.

MIL gets us all a giant QS sweet at Christmas, I'm always praying for the green triangle!

Roses are nicer. I'm also a fan of Cadbury's heroes.

Hate celebrations too, excepting the malteser ones!

gorionine · 22/12/2010 09:55

I am happy to take any unwanted boxes of QS!

Personnally I hate "updates" as far as any chocolate is concerned if they want to change something they should give it a different name so as not to "cheat" peoples habits!Xmas Grin

redderthanred · 22/12/2010 09:56

Ah quality street ARE christmas in a tin.

The chocolates are not all that nice, but there is just something so lovely, def childhood related to opening that tin, and all the bright shiny wrappers that just says ' its christmas'

I love them.

GeekLove · 22/12/2010 09:59

They are a pile of poo. I always thought they were the poor relation to Roses but no they are the same price!

chocohohoholic · 22/12/2010 10:00

I had this dilemma at Sainsburys yesterday, do I buy Roses or Quality Street. (They had Celebrations too but they just aren't the same).
I'm pleased to say my DS decided on Roses for me us. Grin

MsKLo · 22/12/2010 10:22

I don't mind the tin or the wrapping and I remember the jingle! but the chOcolate tastes nasssssty!

' i love the purple ones, the caramel cups and the green triangles' yes so does everyone else but why does there always seem to be less of these and loads of the orange nasty ones?
