A few weeks before my wedding my mother-in-law bought a tie for my husband's tuxedo that he selected on the catalogue of the shop she knows. After bringing it to my husband she tied the tie for him when my husband was trying it on.

Is this normal the mum ties her son's tie in front of his fiancee? I was just watching it at that time as I didnt know how to tie a men's tie but would you be upset if your future mother-in-law did it without asking you?

erm.

Love, if you're serious - and I hope you're not - you need to grow up.

His mum tied his tie - ok, nobody over the age of 10 needs their mum to tie their tie! but even so, what on earth is your problem?

And she tied his tie without asking you?

asking you?

sorry, but that is so funny.

her - "Future dil, may I tie my son's tie please?"
you - "yes, just this once. Husband-to-be, stand still for mummy while she ties your tie and then you can have a wowwy-pop."

Neither you nor his mother own this man. He is a fully functioning independent adult, I assume. This is not a tug of war. This is not a battle you have to 'win'. There is room for you and his mother in his life.

How would you like it if he wanted to shove your mum or your dad aside? Set himself up in competition with them? Expected you to cast them aside to make him the only one in your life?

That'd be pretty stupid and childish of him, wouldn't it.

Therefore...

OP, not been back, clearly a wind up.

Well yes.

However, there are many people who are in petty mil/dil tug of wars who might benefit from reading just how pathetic that is...

I am too scared to say much because having thought about this thread, I am thinking about what a complete twat at aged 19 I was when I married H no 1, and rather suspect I might have been a bit like this Xmas Blush.
