A few weeks before my wedding my mother-in-law bought a tie for my husband's tuxedo that he selected on the catalogue of the shop she knows. After bringing it to my husband she tied the tie for him when my husband was trying it on.

Is this normal the mum ties her son's tie in front of his fiancee? I was just watching it at that time as I didnt know how to tie a men's tie but would you be upset if your future mother-in-law did it without asking you?

This is such a sad thread. To think that one day ds's partner might object to me touching my son....

Goblinchild · 19/12/2010 16:17

I love this sort of thread, really cheers me up on a dark and frosty evening.

Actuallawyer · 19/12/2010 16:20

Surely this is a joke?

Avoidingargosthischristmas · 19/12/2010 16:20

Eh? This thread makes no sense to me. I suggest though, OP, that you show it to your DH to be, it is only fair to guve him some warning of what he is getting himself into........

Avoidingargosthischristmas · 19/12/2010 16:22

Give not guve, obviously.

Goblinchild · 19/12/2010 16:23

Don't know if it's a joke, don't care.
It's the combination of MIL being expected to ask future DIL if she objected rather than the man involved. and the delicious twist of OP not actually knowing how to tie a man's tie, but still wanting to be asked.
Man obviously is meat between two tigers.

PublicHair · 19/12/2010 16:27

is it a joke or not-this is brilliant...

balia · 19/12/2010 16:28

What was she tying it around, though? Might be the key to the whole mystery...

lagrandissima · 19/12/2010 16:28

Am planning on tying their shoe laces until they're in their late twenties. Xmas Grin

JaneS · 19/12/2010 16:29

Jeez, my dad fastened a bracelet for me the other week. I had no idea that my DH had to give written permission for this to happen.

pagwatch · 19/12/2010 16:41

I think op should piss on her fiancée to assert her ownership.
Mil won't be expecting that. That'll learn her.

MissBeehivingUnderTheMistletoe · 19/12/2010 16:41

YABVU. But I look forward you you posting as the wedding preparations move along.

Goblinchild · 19/12/2010 16:44

'I look forward you you posting as the wedding preparations move along.'

You mean the ceremonial septum piercing for the ring?

MissBeehivingUnderTheMistletoe · 19/12/2010 16:54

You're not suggesting that the OP may be a little controlling are you Goblinchild? ShockWink

fulltimeworkingmum · 19/12/2010 16:58

If you are jealous of his mother already, because this is what this sounds to be all about, then it will never be any better and I feel sorry for your DH.
YABVU....... and a bunny boiler.

PublicHair · 19/12/2010 17:07

i sort of hope this is a wind up, the lack of return to the thread by the op eiter means it's a wind up or she's batshit and tracking us down to do us a misdeed for taking the pis thinking things over a bit...Grin

Gogopops · 19/12/2010 17:11

Imagine the future - how would you feel if you had done the same thing to your DS and your future DIL posted such nonsense on here?

Get a life.

IAmReallyFabNow · 19/12/2010 17:15

I feel sorry for you tbh if you are genuinely upset that your fiance's mother fastened his tis for him.
