to report him missing

I've been trying to speak to my brother for the last 3 days unsuccessfully, he's ignored both my phone calls and my texts. I spoke to my sister the other night who'd also tried to phone him but she hadn't spoke to him either. So today I went round to his flat but there was no-one, I saw his neighbour and she said she hadn't seen him either although she said she'd been away and only got back last night. He's a student so there's no work for me to check with.
Would I be overreacting to report him missing to the police

Hows it going frazzell?

ohforfoxsake · 12/12/2010 16:22

Any news?

blinks · 12/12/2010 16:26

i wouldn't wait, sounds unusual.

mousymouse · 12/12/2010 16:35

when I reported dh missing, the police took it very seriously and didn*t make me feel silly at all.
all was well in the end, though.
hope your brother is all right and there is a good explanation for not answering the phone etc.

RevoltingPeasant · 12/12/2010 17:14

Hopefully Mr Manager is right: does he have exams? He might've just got his head down and be in the library where his phone should (Hmm!) be off. If he is a medical or law student this would not be unusual.

Also what about the protests as another poster said? Might he even just have got arrested and detained for one night or so there?

Fingers xed, OP.

I'll update you all, I still didn't hear from him so I contacted the police to report him missing. They said they would investigate and try and find him. Any way about 2 hours after I reported him they phoned to say they had found him and he had given them permission to tell me where he was, he was in hospital (quite impressed with their speed and effiency).

I went down to see him and he slipped on some ice and fell down some stairs on Wednesday night. He's broken his ankle, a couple of fingers. He said he didn't get the hospital to contact anyone because he didn't want to worry anyone, secretly I think he's a little embarassed still he's safe and sound if not a little bit battered. My sisters going to see him tonight so you can probably add earache to his ailments once she gets hold of him.

Thanks to everyone for their help

Brilliant news that hes been found

FakePlasticTrees · 12/12/2010 19:15

I hope he gets well soon, tell him not to let his silly pride get in the way of telling his family stuff like this in the future, you could have been round with grapes, chocolates and a selection of magazines ages ago.

flippinggorgeous · 12/12/2010 19:56

Glad he is safe and pretty much unharmed. You were totally right in your gut feeling that all was not well. What a fab sister he has (make sure you tell him).

catinthehat2 · 12/12/2010 20:02

I trust you have your rolled up newspaper for whopping him over the head.

Give your sisterly instincts a pat on the back, glad he's safe.

beade · 12/12/2010 20:19

Good to hear that he's back on the radar.

reratio · 12/12/2010 20:42

Glad to hear he's appeared and isn't too damaged. I thought about you today when I saw my brother today

Rindercella · 12/12/2010 21:45

Really pleased to hear he's safe and (relatively) well.

You did the best thing. Think, if you hadn't called the police you'd still be fretting now.

RiojaLover75 · 12/12/2010 22:14

Brilliant! Good to hear he's been found Xmas Grin.

CarGirl · 12/12/2010 22:16

Such a relief to read that's he's okay apart from broken bones and serious earache!

ragged · 12/12/2010 22:30

I reckon you did the right thing by reporting it, he's probably quite relieved to see you even if he thought he shouldn't "bother" you with his problems.
