Ok, I admit it, it's not really an AIBU because I won't stop liking them if when you all come on and say YABU.

But the snobbery thread got me thinking. What exactly is it about tattoos in general that people don't like?

I don't like all tattoos and I think they can look very "chavesque", but some of them I think can look good.

I was looking for an example, but I could only find this

Grin Obviously not a Mumsnetter

2shoes i have a friend who has similiar!

I like tatt's i have 3 and planning and saving for my third, i like certain ones and i have to say all mine have been designed just for me! Pic on profile of my back one.

I like a certain style and there are lots i don't like, i like mine in places that i can get out if i feel like it but a majority of the time they are hidden. I suppose some people would say that is pointless and i suppose in a lot of ways it is Grin. I am jhappy with them though.

MarionCole · 18/10/2010 17:34

I have been toting for years with getting a big red rose on my upper arm. I'm just not brave enough! I do love big statement tattoos

MarionCole · 18/10/2010 17:34

Toying even

BaggyCoconut · 18/10/2010 17:46

YANBU

Like whatever you like. I have tattoos myself.........but am still snobby about them. Tattoos are nice pieces of art created with thought, care and attention......however I see lots of people walking round with scrapped in doodles, those I am snobby about Grin

Porcelain · 18/10/2010 17:52

I love beautiful artwork like this www.steve-a.co.uk/main/kacey5.html but despair at rubbish cliches from a flash catalogue.

rastababi · 18/10/2010 19:22

YANBU, like what you like Smile

I'm a big fan myself, although not of all styles.

not my first choice in style Wink

yummy

Charleney · 18/10/2010 19:30

HAHA that tattoo is well funny!

MrsC2010 · 18/10/2010 19:39

YANBU. Nicely done they're lovely.

MrsC2010 · 18/10/2010 19:39

Oooh I love that second one rastababi.

musicmadness · 18/10/2010 19:44

YANBU
I love tattoos, well some of them anyway. I don't have any myself yet but its just a matter of time (and finances!).

HoneyIatethekidsdragon · 18/10/2010 19:49

Mine are pretty much what people define as tramp stamps (not flash though) but I like them so ner!

Dartsonwednesdays · 18/10/2010 19:55

I've got three, all from years ago. A sun, a moon, and a pegasus. I'm looking for one, but it's got to be just right (I'm looking for a picture of a winged egyptian goddess, as an armband.

Nobody can see them when I'm dressed for work.[hgrin]

LynetteScavo · 18/10/2010 19:57

YABU.

Tattoos are just wrong!

I don't think I've ever seen a tattoo that I thought looked better than virgin skin.

TryLikingClarity · 18/10/2010 20:05

Keep posting links, people! I'm growing in inspiration.

poobumfartbollocks · 18/10/2010 20:05

I have a tattoo.

And in a previous incarnation I posted a pic of it up on my profile.

It means a lot to me, I thought a lot about it and I love it.

PersonalClown · 18/10/2010 22:35

Darts-I have a large Isis goddess on my back.

£ hours of hell but she was worth it. Pics on profile if you want a nosey.

shelleylou · 19/10/2010 09:51

personalclown your tattoos are lovely! My favourite one of mine is 3 intwined circles designed by myself. Doesn't look a lot or soun much but it has huge meaning. I f i do choose something i like from a flash card (once) my tattooist alters it so its different in style. He knows i like my tattoos being unique and are all special to me.

PURPLESWAN · 19/10/2010 09:57

I love them as "art" if they are beautiful, but as quite a fickel person I feel they are quite inadvisable as you are stuck with them for life....what I loved and thought was beautiful 2 years ago I dont like anymore.

I think the snobbery thing is just because historically it was either an army, airforce, navy thing or they were something the "rough/bad boys" had!

They dont hurt anyone do they but personally I feel its better to have them somewhere you can cover if you want/need to/change your mind Grin

Scaltini · 19/10/2010 10:02

I had a tattoo when I was 15 which I am in the middle of having removed, which is incredibly painful!!!

Still, I would rather have had one and get it removed than never have one at all...

Rentaghoste · 19/10/2010 10:03

Fat lads with tits and tats on display at the leisure pool on a saturday is a very repulsive look IMO

i have a tattoo on my arm of roo from winnie the pooh in memory of my daughter because it was her nickname, and it makes me smile every time i see it.(smile)

otchayaniye · 19/10/2010 10:48

I like the idea of certain tattoos -- friend of mine had half a Boticelli up his arm and chest, and in when living in Asia I like the gang tattoos.

Most tattoos are just dreadfully naff and shriek 'banality'

I'd never get one. Can't see the appeal.

poobumfartbollocks · 19/10/2010 19:20

Disclaimer - although I have a tattoo I don't like the random celtic ones that people get - the ones that don't have any meaning iyswim
