I just have words I hate - On the other hand I love under-used words such as:

Lollygagging,

Cad/bounder
Irksome
Indubitable
pipsqueak

what do others think?

stleger · 21/08/2010 00:41

You know the wet ditch - how would you spell that - shuch? it is a good word!

booyhoo · 21/08/2010 00:42

shuck?

booyhoo · 21/08/2010 00:43

when i picture it in my head it looks like shuck.

Mowiol · 21/08/2010 00:43

Ooh - moist is definitely a no-no for me!! Gusset runs a close second. Eek, I think I may be a wee bit precious about words!!

OP posts:
booyhoo · 21/08/2010 00:45

but i bet it is spelt different than it is pronounced. i bet pronouncing it 'shuck' is a sort of countryfied pronounciation like dure (as in lure) meaning door. iykwim.

stleger · 21/08/2010 00:50

My dh dries his hurr with a toll; my kids' friends can't understand Northern Ireland accents in far off Munster.

atswimtwolengths · 21/08/2010 00:51

Amazing how many people hate the word 'moist' - I do too - it makes me shudder.

booyhoo · 21/08/2010 00:53
Grin

yes we have touls in this house.

Olifin · 21/08/2010 00:59

ARRRRGGGGHHHH @ Guesstimate, gusset and ramekin. I also really dislike 'prepared' especially as in: 'I am not prepared to...'

mummysgoingmad · 21/08/2010 01:04

love:
bamboo
papaya
slush

hate:
period (sounds dirty, dunno why)
sloppy

thereisalightanditnevergoesout · 21/08/2010 01:09

I hate 'ginormous'. It's not a real word. Use 'giant' or 'enormous'. It really gets my goat.

mummysgoingmad - did you know that 'papaya' is Cuban slang for female genitalia?
